Sammy is the sweetest and friendliest boy around! His favorite thing is to meet new people. He will sit for pets and make the sweetest grumbles when you scratch the right spot. He also might sneak a kiss. He is friendly to all people, but will jump on them when he gets excited, so he will need calm intros! We are seeking a home for Sammy without children, as he has shown some uncomfortability around small children in a previous living environment.
Sammy is house and crate trained. He is still learning how to walk on a leash, and may pull to reach all the cool places he wants to explore, but he responds well to training and is improving every day.
Sammy is food motivated and eager to please. He also loves to chew and de-fluff his toys. No stuffy is safe. He is still learning what he is allowed to chomp on, but will quickly drop anything he shouldn’t have when given a toy to chew on instead.
At the end of the day, Sammy wants nothing more than to snuggle up on the couch with his person - preferably on your lap!
Sammy loves to play with puppies, but has not shown much interest in other adult dogs. He peacefully coexists, but does not interact, with his older foster sister. He has also been going on some parallel walks with other dogs and has done fine with that. He has been harmed by dogs in the past, so slow introductions to other dogs will be very important to setting him up for success.
Sammy is currently undergoing heartworm treatment. He is available through our foster-to-adopt program. In this program, you can take Sammy home, and Hope Animal Rescue will pay for his heartworm treatment until it is completed.

Please visit www.hopeanimals.org/adopt to learn more about our adoption process and to complete an adoption application.
Adoption Fee includes spay/neuter*, microchipping, up-to-date vaccinations, and current heartworm and flea/tick preventatives.
*If pet is not old enough to be spayed or neutered prior to adoption, a $50.00 credit will be paid to your vet at the time of surgery.
We require a veterinary reference for current pet owners, and pets must be up to date on vaccines and heartworm preventative. We meet potential adopters in their homes and introduce the pets to the family's current pets to see if it is a good match. A copy of our adoption contract can be requested via email.
