My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Meet Eli — The 2-Year-Old Spicy, Smart, and Seriously Opinionated Doberman who smiles when happy

Eli is a fully vetted, exceptionally intelligent, cropped, docked Doberman with a pedigree a mile long, graduate of formal obedience training and a personality that could power a small city, and who takes his job as Head of Security, Neighborhood Watch, and Personal Bodyguard extremely seriously, maybe to serious. At just 2 years old, he is a fiery little spitfire with a résumé longer than most human applicants. Eli is super focused on anyone he deems a stranger — because in his expert opinion, the world has stranger danger lurking around every corner, and he must protect those he loves at all costs. If vigilance were an Olympic sport, Eli would bring home the gold every time.

About Eli

Eli is super focused on those he deems strangers — and trust us, he has opinions about them. Strong ones. Loud ones. “Sir, please step back from my human” ones.

He prefers to be the sole protector of his household. Other dogs? Meh. People he hasn’t evaluated yet? Suspicious.
But his humans? Oh, he LOVES his humans.

In fact, once you’re in his inner circle, he expects premium cuddles, consistent devotion, and the occasional forehead kiss. After all, every protector deserves adoration from his… servant— er, humans.

What Makes Eli a Legend

  • Spicy with strangers, sweet with his people

  • Laser-focused security mindset — FBI, call us

  • Highly trained and lightning smart

  • Exceptionally loyal — bonds like a Velcro shadow

  • Pedigree papers and a puppy price tag that probably still hurts

  • A personality that’s half genius, half gremlin, 100% Doberman

  • He copies humans and smiles back:) Makes you wonder what else he will copy??!!

What Eli Needs

This boy is not for first-time dog owners — he’s the advanced placement Doberman. He needs:

  • A VERY experienced handler

  • A home where he can be the only dog

  • Structure, leadership, and someone who won’t be intimidated by his “opinions”

  • A quiet environment where he can relax between patrol shifts

  • A human who’s prepared to be adored, guarded, and occasionally judged

Why You’ll Love Him

If you want a dog who:
✔ will cuddle you like a weighted blanket
✔ take you on walks without you worrying about “stranger danger”
✔ watch over your home like Fort Knox
✔ outsmart you at least twice a week

…then Eli might be your perfect match.

Are You Smarter Than Eli?

Unlikely — but if you want to try, apply at www.uniteddobermanrescue.org

Eli is waiting for his forever handler, protector, partner, and happily bossed-around human.

More about this rescue

We are a small group of rescuers dedicated to the Doberman, some of us since 1976, owning and rescuing this complex, beautiful breed. We have dedicated our lives to every Doberman and their owners who need help. Our ultimate goal is finding forever homes for those Dobermans who have no place to call home. For those surrendered to our program, our homes will be theirs until we find their forever someone to adopt them. We stand behind each and every Doberman that enters our program for its entire life and will take them back at any time in their life should adopter be unable to care for them.
