Meet Dakota — a handsome 3-year-old Deer Head Chihuahua with soulful eyes and an 8-pound frame that holds a world of emotion. Just three months ago, his life was turned upside down. His loving mom became seriously ill and had to leave her home in New York to stay with friends in Tennessee. She was told Dakota and his sister, Cheyenne, could come… but months later, that welcome was withdrawn. Heartbroken and with nowhere else to turn, their mom had to let them go.
Critter Cavalry Rescue stepped in immediately—because dogs who lose everything deserve a chance to feel safe again.
Dakota is still processing all the sudden changes in his young life. He is gentle and sweet, but understandably nervous, especially after living in a place where he wasn’t truly wanted. At first, he may hesitate when you reach out—but with a little patience, he leans in, softens, and may even offer a tiny kiss to show he’s trying to trust.
He finds comfort with other dogs—especially his sister—and loves to cuddle with them or burrow under a blanket when he feels unsure. Dakota is pee-pad trained, walks well on a leash, and loves following his foster mom from room to room, quietly seeking connection and reassurance.
More than anything, Dakota needs stability, a calm home, and someone who truly understands the tender nature of Chihuahuas. With love, patience, and a kind heart, he will blossom into the devoted, affectionate boy he so badly wants to be.
At Critter Cavalry Rescue, we promise dogs like Dakota that their heartbreak isn’t the end of their story. They will learn to trust again—and we are looking for the person who will help him do just that.
If you can picture yourself being the one to help Dakota heal,
