Panini is a 24-week-old black and white beauty with the softest fur and the cutest meow. When she first arrived at the shelter, she was frightened by everything around her. The world was a big and scary place for a small cat like her. We slowly started to introduce ourselves to her and love on her and eventually, our efforts paid off. While she is still a bit shy and doesn't like to leave her kennel, she now purrs when we pet her, happily basking in all the attention. She has grown so confident over the past weeks and is ready to continue that growth in her new forever home. She is also spayed and up to date on her core vaccinations and monthly preventatives. We are the Jefferson County Humane Society and , except for our humane officers (who are paid very nominally), we are all volunteers! Our members were instrumental in getting a local levy passed to build a new and larger shelter and the doors opened in 2011. We are currently participating in Iams Home for the Holidays Program and the Purina Pets for People grant program. We are actively pursuing other grants and recently have been asked by the county to partner with them in the operation of the new shelter. Since we are a humane society, our main focus is on getting animals spayed and neutered so there are no more homeless pets. To that end, we bring in a mobile animal surgical clinic who performs spays and neuters at a reduced rate. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our efforts and, of course, for financial contributions (we are a non-profit, 501 (c)3) and pet adopters! Other items such as food, treats, pet carriers, cages, leashes, collars, food bowls, etc. are also ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated. Please contact us if you have an item to be donated or would like to volunteer with us to try to save some of these homeless, but very loveable, dogs!
