DOG TEST: (Selective) Balto can be playful but selective with other dogs. If you have other canines in the home it would be best to do a meet and greet!
CAT TEST: (Okay with Cats) Balto has met a cat at the shelter and doesn`t seem to mind them!
KID TEST: (Okay with Kids) Balto seems like he would do best with older kids that can handle his high energy. HOUSE BROKEN: (Potty Trained) Balto seems to be potty trained and keeps a clean kennel. ENERGY LEVEL: (High) Balto is eager to go outside in this winter weather! He loves to go on long walks and gets the zoomies in the play yard. Balto is keen on meeting new people and enjoys pets from everyone he meets. Balto would thrive in an active home that can take him on tons of adventures!
LEASH WALKING: (Needs Work) Balto tends to get excited and can pull and do circles on the leash but he overall walks well and enjoys long walks outside! KNOWN COMMANDS: Sit (Yes) Down (Yes) Stay (No) Shake (No) Drop (No)

Monday- Friday 8am-5pm
Saturday- Sunday 10am-2pm
We ask that you come visit any time between open and no later than 30 minutes prior to closing. This ensures that staff will have enough time to assist you in meeting one of our great furry friends!

More about this shelter
We are a Municipal Animal Shelter for the City of Lee's Summit. We house animals brought in by Lee's Summit Animal Control Officers and Blue Springs Animal Control Officers.
Animals are also brought to us by owners that can no longer keep the animal or by strays that were impounded for running loose.
When an animal comes in as a stray, it is held for 5 days to give the owner a chance to claim it. If the owner does not claim it, on the 6th day it is put up for adoption or foster. During this 5 day holding period, if a potential adopter would like to adopt the animal, they are welcome to sign up on the adoption list. The names on the adoption list are contacted on the 6th day if no owner has made claim.
If there are no names on the adoption list, then the animal will become first come, first served when available for adoption.
