Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Silas is an interesting and handsome young man. He came to us after he was found outside on a super cold winter day. We attempted to reconnect him with any possible owners, however we were unsuccessful and Silas became an unclaimed stray.
Silas enjoyed affection on his terms. He liked be pet, handled and cuddled...until he didn't. We attribute this to his elevated testosterone levels and his assumed state of defense from trying to forage his way on the streets, without a family and without a home.
When he decides he no longer wants to be pet and loved on, he may scratch with his murder mittens or give a playful bite and because of this - we cannot recommend that Silas be around kids.
While he may be loving and affectionate time to time, Silas prefers to do his own thing and exist, explore and play on his terms. He needs a place he can call his own, perhaps in a heated barn, shed or shop where he's protected from the elements but also able to roam, explore and do what is comfortable and familiar to him.
Since Silas was neutered, his defensive behavior has calmed down quite a bit - his personality has mellowed significantly. It is unknown if he may settle and acclimate into a more normal indoor setting with a family or not.
Silas is neutered and has received his distemper and rabies vaccines. He is up to date on flea & tick preventative and was feline leukemia & FIV tested. He is negative for both.
We do not know how he would do with dogs - this is something we have not tested. He is somewhat tolerant of cats since being neutered.
He prefers to keep to himself and observe from a quiet & hidden place. He would prefer to keep to himself and is a private kind of guy. He merely wants to exist and not much more. However, this may change in due time. He will need a patient and loving family who will allow him to be him, at a distance.
Ideal home: Silas needs a warm, comfortable and safe enclosure with consistent food and water. We are not recommending a home where there are children since he is a bit of a wild card temperament wise - although this may continue to change as his testosterone levels decrease. He may not appreciate consistent and zealous forms of affection but a little bit here and there is quite alright with him.
Silas is a sleek and handsome guy who is truly a wonderful and loving kitty - he has a purposeful mind and intent and most likely would make a great mouser as well (no guarantees!). Please consider giving Silas a new home and a new promise of forever.

Additional adoption info
We are a donation based operation located in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. We fully vet, vaccinate and medicate animals that come into our care according to their age under the direction of our team of veterinarians: Riverside Vet Clinic. All dogs and cats receive a comprehensive wellness exam, distemper, rabies (if old enough), are dewormed & medicated for flea/tick/heartworms (as a preventative). Occassionally, we will receive a very sick animal who will require significantly more vetting than others and those vet fees are offset into the adoption fee. This would be why some animals are priced higher than others.
