My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Banana Phone — The Shy Guy With the Biggest Heart (and Even Bigger Zoomies!)

Say hello to Banana Phone, a male mixed-breed mystery (seriously — your guess is as good as ours!) with a gentle soul and a playful spirit just waiting for the right family to bring it fully to life. He came here all the way from Texas with two of his siblings and was born on 8/17/2025. He currently weighs 15lbs, but is growing very quickly!

Banana can be a little shy at first, but once he decides you’re his person, he transforms into a wiggly, toy-delivering ball of joy. If your hand is empty, don’t worry — he’ll fix that. Toy delivery is his love language.

He already knows how to sit, is working on potty training and learning “lay,” and is a quick learner who’s happily treat motivated (the fastest path to his heart is definitely edible). He’s a talented little fetch player… though he believes the “give it back” part is optional.

Banana’s favorite thing in the world is laying in warm sun spots, followed closely by zooming around the yard like a happy little comet. He adores kids, plays well with other dogs, and will make an amazing companion dog — the kind who follows you from room to room just to be close.

He hasn’t been tested with cats or small animals yet, but his lovable nature gives him tons of potential.

If you’re searching for a loyal buddy with a sweet heart, a playful streak, and the cutest mix of shy and energetic, Banana Phone is ready to dial into your life.

Our standard adoption fee is $375 if paid by cash or check, or $385 if paid by credit card (which includes a $10 processing fee). This fee covers spay/neuter surgery when age appropriate at one of our participating veterinarians, age-appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative, and microchipping.

In order to be considered for adoption, we require a fully completed application, a phone interview, and a meet-and-greet with your entire family. Please note that submitting an application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee approval—it simply allows us to begin the review process.

If you are interested in adopting or would like additional information, please email us at adopt@safehavendogsIL.org to request an application.

Keep in mind that the breed and size listed in each dog's biography are our best educated guesses and are not guaranteed.

Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse the adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant for any reason.

More about this rescue

We are a small 501 C3 nonprofit rescue located in Elburn, Illinois. In 2014, Safe Haven Dog Rescue became its own non-profit. We are licensed by the Illinois Agriculture Department.

The majority of our dogs and puppies are pulled from Kill Pounds and Shelters in Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, and Illinois. We also accept local medical cases as often as our finances will allow.

Please take a few moments to read the stories about the dogs and puppies we have available for adoption. We disclose everything we know about the dogs, sometimes we know a lot often we know only that they were strays, thrown away on the side of the road, in the woods, or found in abandoned houses.

While we don’t always know their past we are certain that their future is much brighter.

We hope that you and your family are part of the future…..
