Meet Alaska, a beautiful female Great Pyrenees mix who's blossoming into the most wonderful companion! This cheerful girl has overcome a difficult past of neglect and is now thriving, showing her true loving and loyal personality every day. Alaska is housebroken, walks well on leash, and has easy-to-manage medium-long fur that she absolutely loves having brushed. She's a moderate-to-active girl who gets the most adorable morning zoomies when she bounds outside to start her day! Alaska is incredibly affectionate and becomes more loving as she learns to trust and feel secure in her environment. She adores people and is working on her enthusiastic greeting manners, though her joy is simply irresistible. This playful pup gets along wonderfully with other dogs, especially larger ones who match her energetic wrestling and play style, and she's learning to read their cues when it's time to settle down. She lives happily with five resident cats—though she was curious at first, she now mostly ignores them indoors and respects the alpha cats who've set boundaries with her. Alaska loves being both inside and outdoors, enjoys car rides, and goes crazy for walks, hikes, playing with other dogs, and any food or chew treats you offer her! Due to her athletic build and exuberance, she'll need a sturdy 6-foot fence. Because of her history of not receiving regular meals, she is protective of her food with other animals (not humans) and eats separately, and she's also fearful of loud voices, posturing, and being outside in the rain. She doesn't much like being crated, but she does perfectly well in an exercise pen setup. Alaska's ideal forever home is with an active family that has a large yard and another young, large dog to be her playmate, where she can enjoy the walks, adventures, and abundant love she so richly deserves!

NYS Registered Non-Profit Rescue # RR102. National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) has been rescuing and adopting out Great Pyrenees since 2006. Our relationship doesn’t end with adoption, as we continue to support adopters throughout the lifetime of their dog.
Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority.
