My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Have you ever wanted a pet who’s part rabbit, part ottoman, and 100% sweetheart? Say hello to Flanders, a Giant Flemish rabbit who arrived at the shelter as a stray and is now ready to hop into a forever home.

Flanders is big. Like, bigger-than-a-cat, possibly-the-size-of-a-small-dog big. Despite his impressive stature, he’s a true gentle giant with a calm, kind nature. He prefers to keep all four feet on the ground and isn’t a fan of being picked up — which is totally fair when you weigh as much as a small sack of potatoes… except Flanders is not a sack of potatoes, he’s a dignified, heavy gentleman who would also prefer not to be dropped.

About Flanders
Giant Flemish rabbit (extra-large bunny, extra-large heart)
Sweet, gentle, and a bit cautious
Likes life best when interactions happen at floor level
Nervous about being carried, but happy to hang out nearby
A wonderful candidate for a calm, rabbit-savvy home

Rabbits as Pets – What to Know
Rabbits make fantastic companions! They are:
Social, intelligent, and full of personality
Happiest with space to roam (exercise pens work great!)
Best handled gently and on their terms
Long-term companions (many live 8–12 years with good care)

Giant Flemish Rabbits in Particular
This breed is known for:
Their massive size and laid-back temperament
Being more relaxed than smaller, high-energy rabbits
Needing extra space, sturdy setups, and lots of hay
Winning hearts wherever they flop

If you’ve got room in your home (and your heart) for a rabbit who may be mistaken for a small livestock animal, Flanders might just be your perfect match. Come meet this lovable giant and see for yourself — he’s big, beautiful, and ready for a soft landing in a forever home. Please complete an adoption application:

Flanders will be neutered prior to going to his forever home. This surgery is included in the adoption fee. Adopters must provide their own enclosure and accessories.

Animal adoptions and viewing are by appointment only. This allows our Adoption Staff to spend quality time with each potential home to ensure the most successful matches are made between the animals and their new families.
