Hey there! My name is Cola and I'm a silky sleek black kitty with vibrant amber eyes. Everyone tells me I'm a handsome lad! I am a bit shy and conflicted right now, but I am opening up a little more each day. Let's take our time getting acquainted - soft talk and slow movements will help me to relax. Then, you'll see how gentle and sweet I am. I'm normally friendly and get along with everyone. I'm playful and like to bat my fuzzy balls and mice around. The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria is an independent, local, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and recognized by Charity Navigator as a Four Star Charity. Operating the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter, an open-admission facility and Alexandria’s only animal shelter, the League provides care for more than 3,500 animals every year, including strays, lost pets, local wildlife, rescue animals, and pets surrendered by their owners. Serving the community since 1946, the League has contracted with the City of Alexandria to provide animal care, control, and sheltering services since 1989. The AWLA is committed to ending animal homelessness, promoting animal welfare, and serving as an educational resource for the community.
