My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We all love a spot of Shade and that won’t change today, meet the sunshinest bit of Shade. He is a soft soul and an absolute sweet-heart. It truly didn’t take long at all before I was head over heels smitten with Shade.
Take a look at Shade in action then come back to read more- https://youtu.be/nIDQa1GZIrA

He is still a bit of a puppy sbut in my opinion, he is at the perfect point of puppyhood. He knows a thing or two and is eager to learn everything and more. Shade is fostered in a loving home and is both house and crate trained. He lives with a variety of dogs from young to old and small to large and he gets along with them all beautifully. With new doggie friends he likes to take a few beats to observe, but after that his is friendly and eager. His play style is gentle, thoughtful, and full of breaks. He’s perfect for a playful but balanced resident dog. He will benefit need a doggy friend in his adoptive home, this will help him feel relaxed and confident when he arrives home.

Shade is estimated to be 7 months old, weighs 30 lbs and we believe he is possibly a flat-coated retriever mix but of course given he is a rescue we cannot guarantee breed or age with 100% certainty.

Another winning quality of Shades is he LOVES the water! He is a legit swimmer so if your family loves water days, creek walks, beach trips, or lake weekends, Shade always has his suit with him.
Shade may hesitate for a second when something feels new, like walking on leash, or stepping into a new space, but give him a dog friend or a kind human, and he turns into the cuddliest, softest cloud of melty affection and playfulness.Plus, heis incredibly gentle with people and wonderfully polite with new faces.

Wondering about Shade with cats? Well, that depends on your cat. Shade could do well with the right dog-savvy, playful cat, but because he doesnt live in a home with cats it is difficult to know how he will be when he does. When Shade met our house cat he went from friendly to playful in not time at all. He was respectful and cautious but once he knew the cat wasnt going to hurt him he was quick to start a fun game of chase and bounce with him. With boundaries, a doggie friend as a playmate, and a dog-savvy, tolerant cat Shade could be a friend to the felines.

Shade will thrive in a home with a friendly resident dog, a moderately active family, a quiet suburban home, apartment, or condo (with regular adventure and exercise), or with a family wanting a loyal, cuddly companion who loves both adventures and couch time.
With his love of water, his easy company, his treat-motivation, and sweetness to all, Shade is undoubtedly going to be a dog that only gets better with time. He’s steady, he’s gentle, he’s soft… and he’s ready for his forever family. Let Shade brighten your home!

At our 2 acre Texas based property, we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group training and socialization play groups helping them stay confident, well rounded, and adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers are dedicated to each dog’s growth and we enjoy seeing their progress!

We go above and beyond to ensure every animal receives exceptional care. Veterinarians consistently praise our medical standards. From routine care to advanced treatments, each dog receives personalized attention. Hard costs for a healthy dog range from $804-$920; heartworm-positive dogs or those needing specialized care can exceed $2,000+. Adoption fees help cover a portion of these expenses, but without government funding, we rely on fundraising to bridge the gap—ranging from $100–$1,000+ per dog.

Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.
