Lucy is a sweet little soul searching for safety and love.
Lucy’s story tugs at the heart. Estimated to be around 5–6 years old and weighing 35 lbs, this gentle girl likely has some Beagle, maybe Pug, honestly someone even said Shar Pei. Truthfully, with a rescue the true mis is hers, but what truly defines her isn’t her breed, but her beautiful, quiet spirit.

When Lucy’s former owner was taken to the hospital, she suddenly found herself without the familiar world she knew. Understandably, she’s been a little scared since. During her assessment, she sought comfort in the kindest way- leaning into a lap for reassurance and slowly learning that she was surrounded by gentle hands and calm voices and meant safety.
Her foster shared that Lucy’s affection shines through once she starts to trust, which doesn’t take much time at all. “She lights up when she sees someone she knows,” they said. “The moment she recognizes you, her tail gives this soft little wag that says she’s happy to see you.”
Lucy is looking for a peaceful home with a family that understands the beauty of quiet companionship. She’ll blossom with calm, consistent love and would do best with adults who are happy to take it slow at first knowing it is well worth it for what is on the other side.
With other dogs, Lucy is polite but she prefers calm, easy-going canine friends who respect her boundaries and let her open up at her own pace. It is easy to see that her true comfort is with small dogs and even feline friends. She has lived peacefully with dogs before and seemed to quickie relax as she greeted each new dog, preferring calmer, companion type dogs. A calm, aloof male or gentle small dog would be a great match. She also met our resident house cat and despite his spicy approach, she did beautifully. She sniffed politely, wagged her tail softly, and then walked away a few steps to laydown and rest, “Nice to meet you!”
Two fast tracks to Lucy’s heart- sweet talk and canned cheese, she accepts both with gentle gratitude. She’s not one for chaos or loud noises, so a home with a yard (rather than an apartment) will suit her best. Once she trusts her person, she’ll love to follow you from room to room- content to just be near you. All she needs is patience, gentleness, and love- and she’ll give it back tenfold.
If you’re the kind of person who finds beauty in earning a shy dog’s trust, Lucy will be the most rewarding companion you could ask for.
