Helena is what we call an "elusive" soul. She isn't the type to run to the door to greet you; instead, she prefers to observe her kingdom from a distance until she decides the time is right for a visit. Helena does have a sweet side! When she’s in the mood, she can be very affectionate. However, she is very clear about her boundaries. She is sensitive to touch and will swat if she feels overstimulated or if she’s being handled in a way she doesn't like. She needs an owner who can read "cat body language" and knows when to give her space.
Because of her independent nature and the fact that she's spent time outdoors previously, she should be given the opportunity to go outside if she shows interest. Having that extra space to roam often helps cats like Helena feel more relaxed and less frustrated when they are indoors.
Helena was surrendered because her previous family found her "not very trusting," but we believe she just hasn't found the right "quiet" environment yet.
Helena is a beautiful, complex girl who is looking for a home that celebrates her independence and doesn't expect her to be a "typical" lap cat. She is a true individual who lives life on her own terms.
She needs an owner who understands "spicy" cats and won't take a hiss or a swat personally.
A Note to Adopters: > Helena is not a "starter cat," but for the right person, she is a fascinating and rewarding companion. There is something truly special about earning the trust of a cat like Helena—when she finally chooses to be affectionate, you know you’ve really earned it.
