My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Irish Mist is a female white kitty about 3 ½ months of age. She has a short-haired, soft, pure white coat which will benefit from a weekly brushing to stay shiny. Irish Mist also has different colored eyes which is called heterochromia and is a bit rare and extra special! She loves to ride around on your shoulder and get nose kisses. She plays with anything and everything and likes interactive play with people. She likes wet food more than dry and shreds or pieces not pate. She gets along very well with other cats and kittens but has never seen a dog so that potential interaction is unknown. Irish Mist came to the shelter with three other tiny kitties and three larger ones, maybe 4 weeks old. Too young for shelter life, they went to foster care until they were big and strong and now are ready for forever homes. Estimated DOB 8/29/25. More about this shelter

The Amarillo SPCA is a 501(c)3 non profit organization. We operate solely on donations and fundraisers.

Presently, we operate a shelter for dogs and cats. We have approximately 100 animals housed at the shelter and in foster care.

One of our main concerns is pet over population. It is important that the public be educated about the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. It is also our goal to make sure every animal that is adopted from the SPCA is sterilized before going to a new home.

We receive calls daily from people who request help with their animals--either needing to give them up or asking for help with food and medical needs. We help whenever we can, but financially we're not able to help often.

We have grown to the extent that volunteers alone cannot provide necessary hours for operating the kennels. We have a shelter manager and other part time employees for the care of the animals and maintenance of our facility.

Costs for our facility include payroll for these employees, good quality food for the animals, heat and air conditioning, medical treatment for sickness or injury. Additional costs for the animals always include vaccinations, deworming, microchipping and sterilization before leaving the shelter to go to new homes. Our vet bills are high and frequently expenses are far more than the adoption fee of $100. Therefore donations are hugely appreciated! We look forward to your contribution and particularly to your interest in one of our dogs or cats as a permanent companion.
