My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Eira — a gentle older lady whose world was turned upside down when her beloved person passed away. After spending her entire life in a quiet, loving home, finding herself in a shelter has been confusing and overwhelming for her. She’s taking her time to understand this new chapter, and that’s okay — she’s simply waiting for someone patient and kind to help her feel safe again.

Underneath her uncertainty is the heart of a truly sweet, loving kitty. Once she realizes she’s finally home, Eira will show you her soft, affectionate side — the one that just wants to curl up in a cozy bed, enjoy calm companionship, and soak up the gentle love she’s always deserved.

Eira is hoping for someone who can offer her comfort, understanding, and a peaceful space to settle in. If you’re willing to give this sweet senior girl a chance, she’s ready to show you just how special she is. Could you be the one to help Eira feel safe, loved, and home again?

More about this shelter

The Humane Society of Greater Dayton is proud to be a no-kill animal welfare agency. We are committed to finding great homes for great pets! As a 501(c)(3) nonproft, we receive no government funding and rely solely on donations from individuals, companies and grants to fund our programs and services. We are not affiliated with any other animal agency on a local, state or national level. Since 1902, our organization has been devoted to being a voice for the voiceless. Although we proudly find more than 2,000 animals forever homes every year, we are far more than an adoption center. We currently have a wide array of programs to support animals in our community. Through our high-volume spay and neuter clinic, we are able to help pet owners as well as battle cat overpopulation through Trap-Neuter-Return. Our humane society agents also work tirelessly to protect pets from cruel and neglectful circumstances through our Cruelty & Neglect Investigations Department. Through our Veterinary Hospital, we can provide top-quality access to veterinary care at a low cost to pet owners. In addition to our many programs, our organization is unique because we are the only agency in the community able to handle all types of animals. This includes cats and dogs but also rabbits, birds, farm animals, pocket pets and exotics. Our organization is committed to providing our community, our state and our region with support and care.
