Adoption steps

  1. Visit the Facility and Find a Pet
    1. Visit the shelter and find a pet you’d love to adopt.
  2. Meet the Pet
    1. Meet the pet and spend time getting to know them.
  3. Interview
    1. Interview & meet and greet; all household dogs must meet new dogs. So make sure to bring your dog(s) in to meet their future companion!
  4. Home Check
    1. Home check – Renters need a signed DCAS Landlord Letter.
      Owners are verified through the County Assessors' Files
  5. Sign Adoption Contract
    1. Sign the adoption contract and complete the required paperwork.
  6. Pay Fee
    1. Pay adoption fees, dog license, and any needed rabies or spay/neuter costs. Fee prices will vary with animals.
  7. Take the Pet Home
    1. Take your new pet home—if they’re ready, they go home that day!
