My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Max! This sweet little guy was abandoned by his owner... He can be a bit shy at first, but is very sweet!!

Max went to foster care for our annual Home for the Holidays program and was given a rave review!! Max was described by his foster family as `awesome and very friendly!` He `blended right on in` and did well with kids and cats and likes wand toys and cat condos! His foster family said, `Max is a confident, playful, and endlessly charming young male cat who wins hearts almost instantly. He is extremely social and gets along beautifully with other cats, children, and adults, making him a wonderful addition to a wide variety of households. Max loves climbing all the way to the top of cat condos, chasing wand toys-especially alongside feline friends-and following his people around like a little puppy. At night, he happily curls up on your chest, purring himself to sleep and cuddling through the night and he doesn’t mind being picked up while relaxing. While he may thrive in a more active home, Max is highly adaptable and would easily settle into just about any environment where he can give and receive affection—something he does exceptionally well.` About the only thing negative we can say about Max?? He does get a little car sick...but other than that, he is just purr-fect!!

More about this shelter

The Toledo Area Humane Society was founded on February 14, 1884. As one of the oldest humane societies in the United States, our original purpose was to prevent cruelty and provide refuge for both animals and children. To this day, we investigate cruelty to animals and provide homeless, abused and abandoned animals with protection and safety. TAHS is a private, non-profit organization and receives no funding from the United Way, the government, or national humane organizations. Donations from local individuals, corporations and generated by our fundraisers are the sole source of funding. Programs like Forever Friends, for people who include TAHS in their wills, and the Golden Paw League, for people who give gifts of $250 or more, have been established to give people donation options and to recognize their generosity. Volunteers help supplement the staff assisting with tasks both inside and outside of our facility. Volunteers provide enrichment for animals such as walking dogs or socializing cats. The Humane Education and Pet Therapy Visitation programs are dependent on our volunteers. Foster care volunteers provide a safe, nurturing environment for animals too young for adoption and for sick or injured animals. It is our goal to help every animal at-risk for abandonment or cruelty, and to find a home for every adoptable animal. The Humane Society is the only animal welfare group in this community who will give refuge to any animal at-risk for abuse or neglect, regardless of its type, health, age or whether we have space.
