Fudge is a sweet and affectionate cat who has overcome a serious congenital defect that kittens seldom survive. He was born with a hole in his soft palate, which is the membrane that prevents food and water from entering the nose or lungs. Most kittens with this defect die in infancy, because they inhale food or water and develop pneumonia. Fudge survived his kitten year in the woods, being fed as a part of a feral colony. He entered the rescue at about a year old and we treated his sneezing, runny nose and infected eyes but didn't know of his disability until he was anesthetized to be neutered. It was then that his cleft palate was identified and he started a series of operations to repair it. It took 4 surgeries to close the cleft.
During that 4 1/2 months, he had a feeding tube so that no food or water would disturb his delicate surgical site. He was fed a liquid diet by syringe every 6-hours around the clock and wore an e-collar to protect his tube. He's had a long journey, through which he has been both brave and loving, but he is finally healed and now ready to be adopted.
He is shy with strangers, but once he gets to know you, he snuggles and likes to be cuddled. He would do best as an only cat in a quiet home without small children or dogs. If you are interested in finding a special cat, Fudge is interested in meeting you!
Fudge's adoption donation is $115 which includes age-appropriate vaccines, dewormer, flea treatment, Felv/FIV testing, microchip, and neuter/spay.
