My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi . . . my name is Toto and I’m a 1-year-old Chihuahua girl who weighs just 9 lbs.  I may not be the “famous” Toto from the Wizard of Oz, but I guarantee that I will be following the yellow brick road straight to your heart.  I’m a very sweet girl who may be shy at first, but once I settle in, I’m all yours!  I’m adventurous, athletic and love to give kisses too.

Favorite Things: Toto LOVES her humans and snuggling with them.  She loves being close to you and if she could, she’d physically get into your skin with you.  Can we say, “Snuggle Bug”??

Training & Manners: Toto is hard at work on her house training and does go potty outside (as well as on pee pads at times).  She will need patience and consistency with her schedule to avoid any accidents in her new environment.  She has good basic manners and tolerates a car ride. She walks well on leash and would be the perfect walking or running buddy.  She’s not a huge fan of treats but is a good eater and eats all her food.

Health & Care: Toto is spayed, up to date on vaccines, microchipped  and heartworm negative.  She will just need her monthly heartworm and flea prevention, like any dog.  As a short-haired dog, she is easy maintenance and will just require occasional baths and nail trims.

Other Animals: Toto would prefer to be the one and only dog in your life.  While she can be in a home with other dogs, she truly prefers to have all her humans’ attention.  If there are other dogs in her forever home, she would do best with passive ones that mind their own business and ones she doesn’t feel the need to compete with for attention.  She has interacted with cats, but again, only those that are passive and don’t look for a lot of attention.  She can be a jealous girl with other fur-siblings looking to take attention away from “her” people.

Children: Toto would be happiest in an adults-only home, where she can soak up every bit of affection and snuggle her way into your heart.

Ideal Home: Toto would be happy in a single-family home or a townhouse, condo or apartment.   She can be left alone in the home for a few hours without issues.  At night she will cuddle up in her dog bed, or better yet, in the “big people” bed with her human(s).

Overall: If you are looking for a gentle, affectionate girl who will surely shower you with love, Toto could be the one for you.  If you think she might be, visit www.PoodleandPoochRescue.org to fill out an adoption application. If it seems like it could be a good match, her foster will reach out with more information. Her adoption donation is $550.

We are a foster-based rescue organization and do not have a facility. We have all events posted on our website each month.

More about this rescue

Poodle and Pooch Rescue is a 501(c)3 non profit organization that saves dogs that truly need help. We rescue the "leftovers" from animal control, the dogs nobody wants because they're older or suffer from neglect, abuse or have a medical need. Their "last" day becomes the first day of their new life. We provide the veterinary care they need, a foster family they love and when they're ready, we adopt them to a family who cherishes them. We do not have a physical shelter because every dog lives with one of our foster families. We are all volunteers so your tax-deductible donation goes directly to help the dogs. We have saved over 5,500 dogs since 2008.
