Tod - Finding His Forever Friend
There's a reason we named this sweet boy Tod. Like the orphaned fox kit from The Fox and the Hound, he started life on his own in the wild, just trying to survive. When we found him and his siblings at only 6 weeks old, Tod was sick and scared. He'd contracted feline herpes virus on the streets, which led to a terrible eye and upper respiratory infection. For a while, we weren't sure if he'd make it, if his little eye would survive the infection. But Tod is a fighter, and against the odds, he pulled through with flying colors and perfect vision. That rough beginning shaped Tod into the incredibly affectionate cat he is today. It's like he knows how precious love and companionship are because he almost didn't get the chance to experience them.
This 9-month-old grey tabby will burrow into your neck and purr like an engine - and we're talking diesel engine levels of loud here. He'll follow you from room to room because he simply cannot bear to be away from his people. Bathroom trip? Tod's coming. Making a snack at 2am? Tod's your buddy. He's not just a pet - he's a shadow, a companion, a very devoted (okay, slightly clingy) friend who will be by your side through everything. Tod still has all that youthful kitten energy and curiosity. He's learning what it means to live in a home, discovering boundaries, and sometimes getting into harmless mischief along the way. (Pro tip: toilet paper rolls are apparently fascinating, and gravity is a concept that must be tested with every item on every shelf.) He needs toys to play with and activities to keep his bright mind engaged. What he's best at, though, is loving. He's gentle with children, friendly with other cats and dogs, and so trusting that he'll let kids carry him around like a fuzzy little potato without complaint. This boy came back into foster care recently through no fault of his own. It broke our hearts, but we believe his real forever family is still out there waiting for him. As for his health, Tod will always carry the feline herpes virus, but it's far more common than you might think - MedVet notes that over 90% of cats have been exposed to it (source:
https://www.medvet.com/feline-herpes-virus-eosinophilic-keratitis/
). Please do your research and talk to your vet to understand it better. The virus stays dormant most of the time and only flares up with stress. He can absolutely live with other vaccinated pets, and while you might notice occasional sneezing or watery eyes, it doesn't affect his quality of life. He's neutered and fully vaccinated. In The Fox and the Hound, Tod and Copper prove that true friendship can overcome any obstacle. Tod is looking for his Copper - the person or family who will stand by him, love him through anything, and give him the happy ending every orphan deserves. Could that be you?
