My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Leia is being fostered in Salem, WI. Leia is a 6-year-old black tri Mini Australian Shepherd (26lbs)  who has left her former breeding life far behind and stepped confidently into the world of being a loved house dog. And she’s thriving. From the moment she settled into foster care, one thing became clear: she loves being close to her person. She’s calm, gentle, and happiest curled up on the couch or snoozing on a dog bed by your side.

Leia’s journey hasn’t been without adventure, when she first arrived, she was a major flight risk and even went on a solo trek. But those days are long gone. Now, she’s bonded, devoted, and prefers staying right next to her people. Her recall has improved tremendously, and she’s learned the routine of going outside to potty and coming right back in. For adopters, we do recommend keeping her leashed for the first few outings as she learns her new home and schedule; once she settles, she does wonderfully.

Leia is crate trained, fully potty trained, and has excellent house manners. She sleeps through the night, coexists beautifully with both dogs and cats, and although she doesn’t really care to play, she enjoys their company. She’s not very food motivated. Above all, Leia is a low-energy, laid-back girl who loves nothing more than a good nap, couch naps, dog bed naps… truly all naps.

If you’re looking for a gentle, easygoing companion who will quietly follow you from room to room and bring calm to your days, Leia may just be your perfect match.

Oh and her cute little quirk, she gets a smile on her face when you let her head!

NOTE:  All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers so we need an approved application on file to set up a meet with a dog you might have an interest in.  Please visit our website for more information on our adoption process, our adoption fees and a link to our adoption application.  We pride ourselves on matches that work for both the dog and your family.  MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org

Additional adoption info

Meeting any dog within MASR requires an approved adoption application on file. We process as quickly as possible via volunteers. Then connect an applicant one at a time with a dog and foster home to arrange a meet and greet. If all parties at the meet and greet, including the dog, are in agreement that it is a good fit, the dog goes home that day.
