My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Hatch Date: 1997

Ricky is a charismatic and friendly yellow-headed Amazon. He is estimated to be 28 years old and came to us when his previous owner passed.

He is very social and loves to be involved in the conversation. He's very hand-shy but is quickly warming up to being touched. When Ricky is comfortable with the people around him he is very talkative and curious.

He steps up for a bribe. He will do anything for a peanut and loves apples and sweet potatoes. He is friendly with children and loves dogs. The home he came from had dogs as well, and he is sure to scold his foster mom's when they bark too much.

Ricky has been disease tested for Chlamydia and PBFD. He was examined by an avian veterinarian shortly after he came to the rescue.

Ricky is being fostered in Hammonton, NJ.  We do not ship our adoptable birds.  For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA.

As our adoptable birds are living in volunteer homes, we only allow approved adopters to make the required visits. Ricky will require 3 visits prior to adoption.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption procedure begins with completing an adoption application and returning it to us. We will check your references and then call you for a telephone interview. While we check your references, we will ask that you review an educational power point presentation. After your application is approved, it is our policy that you visit with the bird(s) three times to have multiple interactions with them and give you time to consider the adoption and get ready for your new family member. There is an adoption fee for each bird.
