Chicago's Miracle - At first glance Chicago looks like any other kitten, running, playing with her pals or snuggled into a warm blanket for nap time. But Chicago’s unique dilute gray tortie coat hides a miracle kitten. When Chicago and her brother were found at about 6 weeks old, it was immediately obvious that her chest felt abnormal. The vet diagnosed her with pectus excavatum, a condition caused by a deformity of the breastbone shape that compresses the lungs and other organs. Under the vet’s care, we fashioned a makeshift corset using a toilet paper roll and a shoe-lace to put pressure on the side of her ribs to gently push the breastbone outward, stablilizing her condition while she grew large enough for surgery. At Chicago's surgical appointment, the vet was stunned to find that the corset had worked so well that surgery was no longer needed! This was a monumental win for this tiny kitten. Chicago recently had a follow up and was given a clean bill of health - no future issues are expected! Chicago is 3.5 months old and available for adoption and hoping to find her happy ending to this miraculous story.
