My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello! My name is Benji!

I am an absolute darling and love to snuggle with my humans. Sadly, I am just a youngster and have already eaten things I shouldn`t that led to surgery two times in my short life. I will benefit from a home that is very tidy and diligent and where the risk of me eating things is low due to good management. I am crate-trained which is a big help when you can`t supervise me! I`m also very smart and treat-motivated.

MY IDEAL HOME INVOLVES…
CHILDREN: I am looking for an adult-only home.
OTHER DOGS: Yes, I do enjoy playing with dog friends.
CATS: Potentially, with a cat confident and experienced living with dogs.
FIRST-TIME DOG OWNERS: I would do best with someone who has previous dog experience.
FENCED-IN YARD: Not necessarily, though I am young and large and would do well with outdoor space.
HOUSING ENVIRONMENT: Any.
SOMEONE HOME MOST OF THE DAY: I can sometimes get anxious when my humans leave me, so I would prefer to join a home where I won’t be left for too many hours at a time.

SOME OTHER THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ME…
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Medium.
HOUSE-TRAINED: I still sometimes pee in the house but with some patience, frequent outings and rewards when I pee outside, I should be on the right track in no time!

More about this shelter

For 125 years, the Guelph Humane Society has been dedicated to protecting and caring for the many animals with whom we share our community and our lives, and to fostering the important bonds with animals that enrich us as individuals, families and communities. Founded in 1893, the Guelph Humane Society provides care and shelter for more than 3,000 homeless, stray, injured, and abused animals each year throughout Guelph and Wellington County.

Our programs are delivered by an enthusiastic team of staff with many years of experience in animal care and welfare. In addition to paid staff, we are lucky to have over 400 active volunteers who provide thousands of hours of service each year and generously share their skills and ideas.

The Guelph Humane Society has a strong working relationship with local, provincial, and national animal welfare organizations; local school boards; the City of Guelph; Township of Centre Wellington; Township of Guelph-Eramosa; local veterinarians; the Ontario Veterinary College Health Sciences Centre at the University of Guelph; and Guelph Police Services and the Provincial Crown Attorney’s Office. We are an affiliate society of the Ontario SPCA, and proud member of the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies (CFHS).

Our organization is guided by a Board of Directors made up of volunteers with a wide range of skills and business experience. The Board also convenes several ad hoc committees, which work to address specific issues. Day-to-day operations of the shelter are managed by the Executive Director and senior staff with the Board’s general guidance.

We are a registered charitable, non-profit organization that does not receive government funding. As such, we depend on your donations and private funding to support our important work. The Guelph Humane Society charitable registration number is 119236305RR0001.
