Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Dew came in with their friend Ditty. This bird may be adopted singly as a companion for other Cockatiels, or with one or more of their friends. They should not be adopted to live alone - Cockatiels are very social birds who thrive in the company of their friends!
Adoption fee for one cockatiel is $100, each additional adopted at the same time has a discounted adoption fee of $65.
As most of our small animals are in foster care, if you're ready to adopt now and want to learn more about this pet, the best way to start the process is to call us (413-781-4000 x 1) or email us at springfield@dakinhumane.org. If you already have a cage, please send a picture of your cage when you inquire.
Cockatiels are a long term commitment since they can live up to 25 years!
Tweet tweet! Are you looking for a happy, singing, long term pet? I might be just the pet for you!
Cockatiels like me are very social and love interacting with you, as well as with feathered companions. We would love to have friends, and if we already have roommates we need to stay with them. In the wild, we can be seen living in groups of thousands!
Housing requirements: Most housing sold at pet stores is too small for small pets. They are going to be spending most of their lives inside their cage; your housing must be as large as the below or larger (bigger is always better!) in order to adopt this pet.
1 cockatiel; 24" wide, 20" deep, and 30" high
2 cockatiels; 31” wide, 21” deep, 35” high
Bar spacing should be no wider than ¾ inches
Cockatiels are a social species, meaning they usually enjoy the company of their own kind. If there are two names listed together (eg Peanut Butter w/Jelly), that means that the two animals are a bonded pair of friends, and must be adopted together.
Got a single at home you’re looking for a friend for? Any animal listed alone on our website is a single and a great candidate; if there is a group of 3 or more, usually one can be taken out of that group as a companion for your single.
- A new friend will need a separate cage until friendship has been established
- Cockatiels are relatively easy to introduce to one another, as long as there is sufficient space.
