Medical Needs: Elle has Lymes disease and takes 400mg of doxycycline a day until treatment is complete (28 day treatment started on 11/19/25).
She gets anxious in new settings so she will continue her prescribed anxiety medicine (gabapentin and trazadone).
Elle has a spay appt scheduled January 7th in Milford, DE. Adopter needs to be no more than 1-hour from Milford, DE to take her to the appt.
House Broken: Yes and No - no accidents in the house, but occasionally poops in crate during the day (we think related to separation anxiety)
Crate Trained: No. (Industrial Crate needed)
Once in a comfortable environment, Elle has the potential to do great in her crate. But through transition periods she has a difficult time settling - the medicine will help her with this and in time she will become comfortable in her crate. With her current foster, because she is comfortable, she settles quickly and sleeps through the night.
Good in the car: Yes, she’s great in the car! Jumps right in. Recommend tethering her in the back though so she doesn’t try to jump on your lap while driving!
Good on a leash: Yes, excellent on leash with a prong collar (she’s a strong girl so this keeps her right next to you!)
Energy Level: medium energy. She loves to chill/cuddle but also enjoys a good play.
Need a fenced in Yard: Unsure. Elle has not been tested offleash. If adopter does not have a fence, recommend leash.
Dog Friendly: Yes but she does get food aggressive around other dogs - must feed with dogs separated
If Yes, does your dog need another dog in its adoptive home? It would be good for her to have a friend (maybe larger in size since she is so big) but not required.
Cat Friendly: No. Would need to be very careful with Elle around cats unsupervised.
Kid Friendly: Yes, very much so!
Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them?
Elle is a beautiful, loyal girl. She is going to make an excellent dog for her new family!
After coming from a neglectful situation, she has some much needed weight to gain and does get occasional food aggressive around other dogs (Poor girl! She’s hungry!). Otherwise, all this girl wants is LOVE and she deserves all you can give + more.
Reminder: Ensure adopter follows 2-week shut down guidelines so Elle has time to decompress in her new home. You will have the most success when you follow these guidelines.
