*Adult Only Home*
Dog Name: Sylva
Breed: Chihuahua mix
Sex: Female
Age: 4-5 years
Weight: 11 lbs
Medical Needs: None
Housebroken: Does good on a schedule. Will also use puppy pads.
Crate trained: Yes
Good in the car: Yes
Good on a leash: Work in progress. She's still pretty fearful and won't walk with you until she trusts you.
Energy level: Low
Need a fenced in yard: Yes. Since she is still skiddish, so a home with a fence will give her the best opportunity to settle in and gain confidence.
Dog Friendly: Yes
If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No
Cat Friendly? Unknown
Kid Friendly: No
While there are no kids in her foster home, given her fearfulness and prosperity to snap in response, we will not adopt her to a home with young children.
If young children are visiting, she should be allowed to hide in a crate or separate room.
If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Teens and up only.
Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them?
Sylva was rescued from a hoarding/neglect case and came to us terrified and sad.
It took her 3 days to decide her foster family were friends and then she turned into a loving, affectionate girl who enjoys belly rubs, snuggles and hiding under the blankets.
She loves treats and compliments (what lady doesn't), so that will help tremendously with getting her adjusted to a new home and building a trust.
But be warned, if you reach to grab her before that trust is built, she will absolutely bite your hand.
This behavior has earned her the nickname of Bitey McBiteyPants and is why we say she needs an adult only home.
She sleeps in her crate at night because she is a bed hog and a blanket thief. She is also not a morning girly, so bribes will be necessary to get her moving in the morning.
She likes small soft toys, but only when she thinks she's stealing them. She waits until no one is looking and quickly snags one from the toy box and hides it in her crate or bed for future snuggles.
Fosters Location: Dover
