My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Dusty - the scruffy little shadow!

This sweet 1.5-year-old, 20-lb terrier mix is as adorable as they come — all wiry charm, bright eyes, and a heart that just wants to belong. He’s crate trained, about 85% housebroken, and working hard on mastering his leash skills. Smart as can be, he picks up new routines quickly and loves having structure to help him feel safe.

At first, he can be shy and timid, but each day he’s bravely coming out of his shell a little more. Once he decides you’re his person, you’ll have a loyal shadow — a true Velcro dog who bonds deeply and loves nothing more than curling up next to someone he trusts.

He’s happiest romping around the yard, going for walks, or playing a spirited game of tug. Toys are his love language! Even better, he absolutely LOVES other dogs and would thrive in a home with a confident, dog-savvy canine sibling to show him the ropes. He’s also likely to do well with dog-experienced cats.

Despite his scruffy looks, he’s a gentleman for baths and brushing.

Because he’s still building confidence and can be selective about new people, he’s looking for a quieter home without young children. A patient adopter who can help him feel secure — and maybe continue his training — will help this little guy blossom into the brave, joyful companion he’s meant to be.

If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate buddy who will adore you with his whole heart, this sweet terrier mix might just be the perfect match.

Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-serve basis. We strive to find the perfect home for each animal. Applications may take up to 48 hours to process. Go meet their pets

CAWS does not have a conventional shelter facility - all CAWS animals waiting for adoption are in foster homes. The number of animals we can help find new homes for is closely linked to how many CAWS foster homes are available. For additional information regarding how you, too, can become a foster, please see our fostering page located on our web site!

CAWS volunteers bring cats and dogs to the PetSmart near 2100 South and 300 West in South Salt Lake on the third and fourth weekends of each month

We are also at the Sugarhouse PETCO (1165 Wilmington Ave) the first Saturday of each month.
