My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Maui!

Maui is a super sweet, super smart senior gal seeking a soft place to land and live out her golden years in luxury 💜

Maui is a nine year old shepherd mix that weighs in at a solid, sturdy 50lbs. Her previous home obviously put a lot of time and effort into her because she's even-tempered, mild-mannered, and incredibly well-trained. She walks like an absolute dream on a leash and will stay right by your side but she can be prone to typical old lady stubbornness and will dig her claws in when she's determined to sniff something out. It's fine, she's earned the right to stop and smell the roses. She can do whatever she wants.

She's understandably a little anxious but it hasn't stopped her from being an absolute sweetheart. She likes to show off all of the cues she knows (and she knows A LOT) and she likes duck jerky, tennis balls, and plush toys. Despite her nervousness, she's always willing to engage and socialize with people though she won't be super lovey-dovey right away. She'll give you a few cursory sniffs and then move on to the next thing that interests her. You gotta work for her attention because she's a queen!

Maui doesn't care one way or another about cats and would do fine with older kids. She probably wouldn't enjoy the quick movements and loud noises of smaller kids. We haven't tested her with other dogs just yet but another dog that matches her speed (ranges from dilly-dally to brisk walk) and temperament would probably be fine. She hasn't shown a single sign of aggression or resource guarding and is, overall, a very, very good girl.
