My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there, future family. 🍪

My name is Cookie, and I’m an 11-month-old terrier mix girl with a slim, healthy 11kg frame. I may be young, but I’ve already been on quite a journey. I was born in a shelter and lived there until I was rescued at about six months old. Now I’m staying with a loving foster family who is helping me learn what it feels like to be safe, cared for, and understood.

Because I grew up in a shelter, new people and new places can feel a little overwhelming at first. When I’m unsure, I might keep my distance or quietly hide behind my foster mom—not out of fear of hurting anyone, but simply because I’m timid. I don’t bite, I’m not aggressive, and I truly want to trust. I just need a moment to observe the world before jumping into it.

But here’s the part I’m proud of: once I feel safe, my real self comes out. I become calm, gentle, and incredibly loyal. I’m the type of dog who gives my heart deeply to my person. I’ll follow you around the house, lean on you for comfort, and quietly show you how much you mean to me.

I’m polite with other dogs—maybe not the life of the party, but I know how to greet them kindly. I’ve even met cats, and honestly… I don’t see what all the fuss is about. They do their thing, I do mine. No problem there.

I know a couple of basic tricks like “sit” and “paw,” and I’m a pretty smart girl. On walks, I stay calm and don’t pull. Loud noises can startle me, so a double leash is recommended just to keep me safe. I can do my potty business both indoors and outdoors, so I’m easy to live with. I used to struggle with separation anxiety, but I’ve improved a lot in my foster home. Still, in a brand-new environment, I might need a little patience and reassurance again.

If you give me time and gentle guidance, I blossom. I’ve even gone camping with my foster family! I try my best to adapt to new experiences, and each time, I get a little braver. When I’m scared, I usually just run or hide—nothing more. So when we first meet, I’d prefer some quiet time to settle in rather than being touched or taken straight outside. Let me feel safe first… then you’ll see the warm, steady, loving dog I truly am.

And don’t let my calm demeanor fool you—I can run. Take me to an open field and I turn into a little rocket, sprinting with all the energy and joy that a terrier mix can have. It’s one of my favorite ways to show my happy side.

I’m not flashy, and I won’t smother you with over-the-top affection. But if you’re patient and kind, and you move at my pace, I’ll give you something even better: quiet devotion, trust, and a bond that lasts a lifetime.

I’m waiting for the person or family who sees me—really sees me—and is willing to let love grow slowly and deeply. I hope one day I can curl up in a warm home of my own, knowing I’ve finally found my forever humans.

With a hopeful heart,
Cookie 🧡🐾
