My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adoption Fee: $475

When available, all animals are fixed in accordance with Colorado law, up to date on vaccines (may need boosters), and microchipped!

From the foster: Meet this sweet, shy girl 💕

This adorable 19-lb Chihuahua mix is as gentle as they come. With her irresistible underbite and big, hopeful eyes, she’ll steal your heart before you even realize it. She’s very skittish around people right now and will run away if approached too quickly, but it’s clear she wants love and connection — she just doesn’t quite know how to ask for it yet.

She’s much more comfortable around other dogs and takes a lot of confidence from them. She happily follows her foster dog sibling around, so a calm, friendly resident dog would be a huge plus for her. While people are still scary, she shows her true personality when she’s playing, exploring, or quietly observing from a safe distance.

One sure way to her heart? Peanut butter. She’s a big fan, and tasty treats are already helping her build trust and positive associations with people.

This sweet girl will need a patient, gentle adopter who understands that trust takes time. Someone who will let her set the pace, celebrate small wins, and show her that humans can be kind and safe. In return, you’ll get the joy of watching her blossom into the loving companion she clearly wants to be.

She may be shy, but her heart is big — and with the right person (and a little peanut butter), she’s going to shine.

From the previous shelter: Zora is amazing! She has a litter of 13 puppies that she cared for on the streets! A citizen took her & her best friend (Sara) in & helped them care for all the puppies. He then paid for them (both her & Sara) to be spayed.
We now have her (and 10 of the puppies so far) trying to find them all their fur-ever homes!
Zora is a little timid (understandably knowing some of her past) and may need a little time to open up to people. She is very playful though! She has really seemed to enjoy herself out in the play yard with others.
If you are looking for a smaller size dog that is going to need you just as much as you need her - you have found the girl for you!

More about this rescue

Colorado Puppy Rescue is a 501(c)3 no-kill rescue for young puppies. We accept puppies from kill-shelters in southern CO, NM,TX, OK and KS. Most of our puppies are mixed mutts under 12 weeks old, some are as old as 6 months. We do not have a shelter. All of our puppies stay in foster homes so the only time they are available for adoption is at our adoption events. We average 20 puppies a week and update our website with available puppies Friday afternoons.
