Meet Albert & Ethel — the Love Story of the Century
Albert (also known as Alberti Popaj or Albert Einstein, depending on how generous you’re feeling about his intelligence) is a single-brain-celled orange cat with a heart big enough to make up for everything he lacks in critical thinking skills. Ethel Mercat (occasionally Ethel Cain or Ethyl Meatplow, depending on your musical taste) is his brilliant, confident tortie partner — the mother of his kittens, the love of his life, and the cat who quite literally brought him back to life.
Ethel first appeared very pregnant—almost certainly thanks to Albert—and the two settled comfortably into colony life together. But everything changed when Albert suffered a broken toe that turned into a severe abscess. He was brought inside to recover, but without Ethel, he was heartbroken. He hid, barely ate, and seemed to lose his spark.
So his foster arranged for Ethel to visit him daily. The moment Albert saw her again, he hobbled out and let out the happiest meow, instantly lifting his whole spirit. From that day on, his recovery—and his joy—skyrocketed. It became clear they aren’t just bonded; they’re soulmates.
Albert is a gentle orange shadow who loves treats, head scratches, purring loudly, and contemplating life’s simple mysteries—like how doors work and whether you might share your buttery toast. Ethel, the brains of the pair, enjoys ear scritches, staying perfectly groomed, and keeping a close eye on whatever her humans are doing. She and Albert take turns grooming each other, nap curled together, and always stay within paw’s reach.
If you’re looking for a pair with a genuine love story, one sweet and silly boy and one confident tortie queen, Albert and Ethel are ready to bring devotion, companionship, and a whole lot of heart into their forever home—together.
Albert & Ethel are currently in a foster home. If you are interested in meeting them, please send a message here, or email adopt@ahsem.org.
Adoption fees are as follows: $155 for a single cat or kitten, $195 for a pair of cats or kittens. When adopting a cat from AHSEM the adoption includes spay or neuter surgery, age appropriate core vaccines, microchipping, combo tested (for FIV/FeLV), and basic wellness care including deworming and flea treatment

AHSEM treats every adoption as "foster to adopt" This means that the first two weeks in which you have the cat is the "foster period." We do our best to ensure the right match for all involved and want to give the cat(s) time to decompress and adapt to their new environment. However, we realize sometimes things don't work out as expected. Therefore, during that two-week period, if something doesn’t work out you can bring the cat back. We will always take our cats back even after the "foster to adopt" period. We would hate to see them end up at a kill shelter, abandoned, or any other unsafe situation.
