Scrap: The Little Black Cat With a Heart of Gold (and a Coat of Tinsel)
Meet Scrap—a 4½-month-old black kitten sprinkled with tiny white hairs that shimmer like tinsel. It’s as if the universe gave him his own built-in holiday sparkle.
Scrap was first discovered on a local college campus. He got his name from the teacher who fostered him - she teaches metalworking. With love and excellent care, they got him healthy enough to move to his current foster home to finish vetting and build his confidence.
Now Scrap is a walking love note wrapped in black velvet. He adores being held, melts into your arms, purrs hard enough to vibrate your chest, and is known to deliver enthusiastic face licks in the name of affection. During a time of deep grief in his foster mom’s life, his warmth was profoundly comforting—he may even have the temperament to thrive as an emotional-support companion.
But this sweet boy has plenty of spunk. Scrap loves to run, wrestle, and play rough with other cats. He’s energetic, social, and needs a confident feline friend who can match his enthusiasm and gently tell him when he’s being too much. He’d be thrilled to go home with one of his foster buddies, like Hue.
He also does well with respectful dogs and would likely thrive in a home with children.
Scrap is all heart: affectionate, comforting, funny, and full of life. With his snuggles, antics, and tinsel-dusted charm, he’s sure to bring warmth and light to the lucky family who brings him home.
Scrap is currently in a foster home. If you are interested in meeting him, please send a message here, or email adopt@ahsem.org.
Adoption fees are as follows: $155 for a single cat or kitten, $195 for a pair of cats or kittens. When adopting a cat from AHSEM the adoption includes spay or neuter surgery, age appropriate core vaccines, microchipping, combo tested (for FIV/FeLV), and basic wellness care including deworming and flea treatment.

AHSEM treats every adoption as "foster to adopt" This means that the first two weeks in which you have the cat is the "foster period." We do our best to ensure the right match for all involved and want to give the cat(s) time to decompress and adapt to their new environment. However, we realize sometimes things don't work out as expected. Therefore, during that two-week period, if something doesn’t work out you can bring the cat back. We will always take our cats back even after the "foster to adopt" period. We would hate to see them end up at a kill shelter, abandoned, or any other unsafe situation.
