Sparkles came to ACC after a housing crisis left her without a stable place to land, and she's been showing us a mix of sweetness and sensitivity in the shelter. She can be friendly and wiggly once she feels safer, leans into gentle neck scratches, and has a playful, zoomy side-then the stress of the environment can catch up to her and she may whine, pace, and get overstimulated. Sparkles is looking for a calmer next chapter with someone who understands that confidence takes time.
My Ideal Home
A quiet, adult-only home with a patient adopter who can move at Sparkles' pace and help her decompress. She'll do best with predictable routines, slow introductions to new people and places, and positive, force-free training. Because Sparkles can get overstimulated and may mouth the leash, she'll benefit from structured exercise (sniffy walks over busy scenes), enrichment like food puzzles/chews, and walking with a toy to redirect her when she gets amped up.
Good with Kids?
No-Sparkles is recommended for a home without children under 13 due to her fearful disposition and low threshold for arousal in stressful moments.
Good with Other Pets?
Sparkles has shown mild reactivity on leash (she may pull toward dogs) but can be redirected with verbal cues. In greetings, she's been described as wiggly and excited at the gate, and more tense once closer. She may be able to live with another dog after careful meet-and-greets and slow introductions, but she may also prefer being your one-and-only while she builds confidence.
Leash Manners
Sparkles walks with moderate pulling and may pull harder when she sees other dogs. When overstimulated, she may jump up and briefly bite/release the leash-staff note she's redirectable, especially with treats, basic cues, and walking with a toy.
Overall Health
Healthy overall, and she's currently being treated for a doggy cold (CIRDC). She's also had inflamed ears noted on intake, and staff can share what ongoing ear care may look like.
Behavior Determination
Level 3 - Sparkles is a sensitive dog who can become anxious and overstimulated in busy environments. She'll thrive with adult adopters who can go slow, support confidence-building, and use reward-based training to help her settle and make good choices when excited.
Other Fun Facts
Sparkles has that "light up the room" energy in her-when she feels safe, she gets zoomies, seeks gentle affection, and shows off a playful spirit. Give her a calm home, a steady routine, and some time, and you'll likely see her sparkle a little brighter every day.
