My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How Dexter arrived:
Dexter was brought in by his previous owner on December 09, 2025.

Why Dexter is the one for you:
Dexter is a sweet, gentle boy with a heart full of love and a soft spot for his stuffed animals. He enjoys heading out for walks where he can take in the world at his own pace, then settling in with his favorite plush toy nearby. While loud noises can make him a bit nervous, a calm, reassuring environment helps him feel safe and secure. Dexter has a positive history with other dogs and can enjoy their company, especially when introductions are thoughtful and relaxed. He was diagnosed with epilepsy as a puppy and will need ongoing routine veterinary care and daily medication to help maintain the best possible quality of life. With consistency, compassion, and love, Dexter thrives and gives that same devotion right back. He's a truly special companion looking for someone who will cherish him just as he is.

At SDHS:
dexter has been vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. Dexter is now ready for his new home!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
