Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Adoption Area: East Tennessee
Buckaroo needs:
-An active adult home with everyone stable on his/her feet
-No apartments
-Someone willing to continue leash and potty training
-Children over 12 years old
-Someone home most of the day would be ideal
Buckaroo is a remarkable russet colored, handsome 1-year-old, male Chihuahua weighing about 7.5 lbs. He was owner surrendered due to changes in the owner’s health. He has only known great care and loving attention so his outlook on life is positive and exuberant. He hasn’t had a great deal of consistent training in potty habits or obedience, but he’s very smart and has shown he wants to please his foster mom. He is improving daily on learning basic commands and is doing very well on potty training if taken outside in a consistent manner. His leash walking is also showing success so his future forever home will need to reinforce this progress as they get to know and love him. He literally thrives on receiving praise!
He loves just about everyone and settles in quickly with new people. Once bonding is accomplished, he will stick with you in the house and loves to sit with you on the couch, a chair, or just be in the same room. He is currently crate-trained at night and during periods when people are out of the house. He loves and needs walks/exercise on a leash to help with his high energy level. Safe chew toys are advised! He really enjoys crinkle toys too. We suspect that food puzzle-type toys would be a big hit with him. He’s smart!
Because he doesn’t always follow commands yet, being leashed is a must — a new owner absolutely MUST ensure that doors are not opened unless he is secured on a leash since he still tries to dart out the door. If he escapes, it is likely that he will just keep going. Young children are not advised for this reason. He is learning the commands BACK, SIT, and STAY, but he hasn’t mastered these commands.
He doesn’t bark just to make noise; however, he can have a large voice so apartments are not a good idea. He’s happy to play with other dogs with a comparable energy level…older dogs might find him too intense/active. He also LOVES cats and has kitty friends in his foster home; however, the kitties there are very dog savvy so not all cats might appreciate his energy level or attention.
He’s neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on all vaccines and flea/heartworm meds.
His adoption fee is $175. Buckaroo is a loving, active, and adorable young boy who is just waiting for an active home to appreciate his remarkable personality. If you are willing to enjoy a lifetime with a loving, loyal, and smart companion, Buckaroo might just be perfect for you!
