Overview

Sweet, easy-going, and always ready for cuddles—Autumn is a lovebug looking for her forever family.

Autumn is approximately 2  years old. She is smooth shaded red mini dachshund weighing 11 lbs. She has blossomed in foster care, showing what a wonderful companion she can be.

Environment

Autumn is happy and easy-going with medium energy—she enjoys short walks or playtime and is great on leash, though she’ll bark at cars and anything interesting she spots along the way. She’s mostly potty-trained and uses the bathroom outside, with pee pads as backup. She loves her crate and sleeps quietly in it at night without making a peep. She’s content being left alone and doesn’t require a fenced yard, making her adaptable to various living situations including apartments with shared walls. Autumn is a foodie and gets excited at mealtime, but for treats she’s patient—waiting her turn and sitting politely.

Pets & People

Autumn loves all people, including children. Her foster home has two boys ages 8 and 14, so she’d do well with older or well-mannered children who are comfortable around dogs. She’s a little shy at first with strangers but warms up within minutes. She’s sweet and loves to cuddle, plus she’s wonderfully cooperative—letting her humans trim her nails and check her teeth and ears without any fuss.

Autumn does well with most dogs. She could benefit from slow introductions with new dogs, though she’s done fine with most she can be a little snappy at first if rushed. She’s definitely a hunter at heart and has high prey drive—she’ll bark at cats through the sliding glass door and pull on leash if she spots one. She even barks at her foster’s tortoises on the balcony, so a home without cats or small animals would be best.

Health

Autumn has manageable skin allergies and has an umbilical hernia that will be removed when she gets spayed.

Location

Autumn is available for adoption from Miami, FL and she does great in car rides, staying calmly in her seat. Please email juliejohnson@littlepawsdr.org with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Autumn is $375.00.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

6 Step Adoption Process

1) Application - (While we encourage you to let us know on your application if one of our dogs has captured your interest, we use this simply as a guide for matching and your listing of specific dog in no way implies claim to this particular dog)

NOTE: Adoption Applications expire 6 months from the date of receipt. If you have already submitted an Adoption Application and it has been longer than 6 months, you will need to fill out a new Adoption Application.

2) Reference Checks - All references will be checked prior to home visit. We will contact your current vet, if you have one, for a reference.

3) Application Review - Processor reviews the application, calls the vet if you have one, verifies vaccinations and spay/neuter. We email personal references (if email is provided) or call them if necessary. Email is best since as references can respond when they are available.

4) Home Visit - A volunteer will come to your home to visit with you and discuss care of dachshunds. Also, the volunteer will look for any potential problems and check to be sure that your fencing is secure. Your home visit does not mean you have been approved.

5) Approval - After the above steps have been completed all your information will be reviewed and a decision will be made about adoption. If at this point you are approved to adopt, LPDR will help guide you to the appropriate dog for your family.

6) Contract - For the protection of the dogs we place, everyone that adopts a dachshund from LPDR will be required to sign an adoption contract.

Go meet their pets

Are you looking for an opportunity to foster a dachshund? Fostering is our transitional step from a shelter/surrender to a forever home. During this time it’s important that we give each dachshund a safe environment where it can learn to trust again, to heal and to learn how to become a loving family member. Many of the dachshunds that we pull from shelters or receive from an owner surrender just need a temporary home until their new forever home can be found. Please go to our website (www.LittlePawsDR.org) to learn more.

More about this rescue

Little Paws Dachshund Rescue is a foster-based, non-profit animal rescue that specializes in finding permanent homes for dachshunds, dachshund mixes, and other small dogs. It is LPDR’s goal to identify abandoned, mistreated, or homeless dogs and oversee their treatment and well being while working to find loving owners for those in our care. We strive to make the lives of all dogs better through action, advocacy, awareness and education.
