Mezcal is a 3–4 month old Labradoodle who currently weighs about 20 pounds and is already showing what a fantastic young dog he’s going to grow into. He came into the rescue with his sister Tequila, who has more of the classic doodle look, while Mezcal inherited a flatter, Lab-style coat—giving him a handsome, soulful appearance that perfectly matches his personality. Likely a first-generation doodle, Mezcal blends the best of both worlds: playful, smart, affectionate, and adaptable.
Mezcal has been fostered in a home with both very large dogs and small dogs and has done wonderfully with everyone. He’s respectful, playful, and socially savvy for such a young pup. When he first arrived, he was a little timid around the other dogs, carefully observing and figuring out the dynamics, but he warmed up quickly. Now he confidently plays, shares space, and happily engages with dogs of all sizes. He was comfortable with people right from the start and quickly settled into home life.
His daily routine is well established and very puppy-appropriate. Mezcal wakes up between 6–7 a.m. and immediately heads outside for his morning potty break. He comes back in ready for breakfast—and he loves his food. He eats very well and is clearly food-motivated, which makes him a joy to train. Throughout the day, he alternates between playtime and naps, with frequent potty breaks, happily using the doggie door to go in and out on his own. Dinner is around 4 p.m., and then he continues his day of playing, relaxing, and hanging out until bedtime around 9 p.m. He sleeps well in a large crate, but if given the option, he’s perfectly content curling up on the bed for the night.
Personality-wise, Mezcal is a fun-loving, playful puppy who is up for just about anything. He loves toys, bones, and interactive play with other dogs. He has classic puppy energy—enthusiastic and curious—but it’s nicely balanced. He’s not over-the-top and is more than happy to settle in for a good nap after playtime. Mezcal enjoys cuddling next to his person on the couch, but he also values his independence. He is not a Velcro dog and doesn’t need to follow you from room to room; you’ll often find him happily entertaining himself with a toy nearby.
Mezcal is still learning the ins and outs of housetraining. He understands that outside is where business should happen and gets it right a good portion of the time, but like most puppies his age, it’s still a work in progress. He uses the doggie door throughout the day, which is a great foundation for continued success. He is crate-trained and comfortable settling in his crate when needed.
He’s been an easy puppy overall. Mezcal only chews on appropriate items like toys and bones, though he may gnaw on a dog bed occasionally—something he is easily redirected from. He is currently teething and still has his puppy teeth, but he handles it well. He does not dig, is not a barker, and rarely makes noise even when people come and go.
Mezcal is a smart boy who listens well and already knows “sit.” He’s eager to learn and picks things up quickly, especially with positive reinforcement. His intelligence, paired with his food motivation, makes him an excellent candidate for continued training and puppy classes. One look into his beautiful, expressive eyes and it’s easy to see why people fall for him so quickly.
The ideal home for Mezcal would be an active, fun-loving household that enjoys engaging with their dog and continuing his training. He would thrive with another playful canine companion but would also do well as a solo dog with enough stimulation and enrichment. While he hasn’t been around kids yet, his temperament suggests he would likely enjoy a home with respectful children.
Mezcal’s best quality is his joyful puppy energy—he truly loves having fun and brings a happy, lighthearted presence wherever he goes. He’s the kind of pup who makes everyday moments brighter, whether he’s playing with a toy, snuggling on the couch, or simply soaking up life as a beloved companion.
