My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Sweetie Pie is an exceptionally sweet and loving soul.   Sweetie is one of those dogs whose sweetness is evident the very first time you look into her eyes. She was found as a stray in South Carolina and gave birth to her puppies at the shelter on October 9th.  She was brought into foster by Pawfect Match when they were only a few weeks old.  Her puppies are now weaned and ready for their forever homes and Sweetie is looking for her forever family too.  She has a warm, loving, and truly special soul and deserves a family that will give her all the love she deeply deserves.

Sweetie is solid black with a white chest and a few white dipped back toes. She has a couple of scars on her head from her past and a light dusting of white around her face, that at first glance appear to be more scars, but are simply markings on her otherwise black coat.  The two scars on her face are not severe and do not take away from her beautiful, sweet face. She currently weighs 54 pounds and may weigh closer to 50 when her milk dries up and she loses the 'baby weight'. But she truly believes she is a tiny lap dog and will happily try to prove it!

Sweetie is housetrained, wonderful on a leash and an incredibly affectionate girl.   Sweetie adores people, and so far has not met one she doesn't like.  When meeting someone new, she often puddles to the ground for belly rubs or gently tries to climb into your lap.  She is a true snuggle companion who craves closeness and connection and wants nothing more than to be right by your side. When you pet her head, she closes her eyes and snores in the cutest way possible.

Sweetie does not seem to mind other dogs, especially common gentle ones. She clearly prefers people above all else. She has had limited interactions with other dogs, but wags her tail and offers friendly licks through the gate, which is always a good sign. With more time and exposure, we feel confident she will do great with other dogs. She has also been around an outdoor cat, chickens, and turkeys and shows no interest or aggression towards them at all.

What truly sets Sweetie apart is her deep need for affection and connection, as well as her capacity to reciprocate it. It is clear she likely experienced significant neglect and possibly abuse in her past. Because of this, she can be timid at first, but when you show her kindness and gentle affection, she closes her eyes and completely melts into your hands in a way that feels different from most dogs. She does not just enjoy affection, she needs it. Love and gentle touch are where she feels safest.

Sweetie would do best in a home where she is not left alone or placed in a crate for long stretches of time.  She is perfectly house-trained and does best when left loose in the home, rather than confined to a crate or cage. While she could adapt to many environments, she truly needs a consistent, affectionate, emotionally connected owner. Someone who understands how much she has been through and who will pour love, patience, and kindness into her every single day. She thrives on quality time and is deeply grateful for the safety and care she now has.

Considering everything she has endured, Sweetie would have every reason to be fearful, defensive, or shut down, but she is not. Instead, she is unbelievably gentle, loving, and trusting. She needs a compassionate adopter who will protect her from ever feeling alone, forgotten, or unloved again.

Sweetie Pie was rescued from being put down at the shelter once her puppies were weaned, since she is heartworm-positive, which is completely curable but they didn't have the resources at the shelter. She has already survived more than most dogs ever should. Now she is simply waiting for the one person who will choose her, love her deeply, and complete her rescue story by welcoming her into a safe, warm, and loving forever home.  Sweetie is still young and has a beautiful life ahead of her. She will reward the right person with unwavering loyalty, deep affection, and a bond that feels truly special. Once you meet her, you will immediately understand just how extraordinary she is.

Sweetie Pie is exactly that, pure sweetness!  She will melt your heart and become a devoted, loving companion for many years to come!

More about this rescue

We are an all volunteer rescue organization devoted to saving dogs from shelters, puppy mills, abusive situations and abandonment in North Carolina. Our members foster, transport and help the rescue efforts with their individual skills, experience, knowledge and expertise, and most importantly, their love of dogs.

At Pawfect Match Rescue we believe that ALL dogs deserve a second chance regardless of their breed or age.

We take a different approach to rescue. We don’t try to save the masses; we just save ONE at a time and make them the best dog they can be by the time they find their forever homes.

By that we mean that we take them into our homes where they live amongst us and our pets and are treated as one of the family, not as a foster dog. We accomplish this by limiting our fosters to one or two per household.

Besides the basics of crate training and house training, we teach them basic obedience, we groom them, feed them a high quality dog food, and last but not least, we shower them with LOVE and attention that hopefully teaches them to trust again and realize that life really IS good..

We’ll never be able to save them all, no matter how many we try to pull and foster. So we believe that the one at a time approach with the extra TLC allows us to really KNOW the dogs and be able to match them more precisely with their new families.

This ends up being a win- win situation for all involved.

Pawfect Match is all volunteer and relies solely on adoption donation fees and public support. Most times our adoption donations do not cover our medical expenses.
