Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet the sweetest little survivor Gemma❤️🩹
Gemma is a purebred piebald miniature dachshund. We do not know what happened before she landed in a rural Texas shelter, but we know she sustained some terrible treatment at the hands of humans. She was found severely emaciated, with pressure wounds on her hips, tail, and flanks consistent with confinement in a small kennel. Every bone in her body was visible, and she was close to starving to death.
We can’t know what happened to her, but we do know that none of this trauma has dampened her love for humans or her eagerness to receive affection and praise. Gemma craves time next to her humans, and enjoys sleeping curled up in your arms or on your lap. We are estimating Gemma to be approximately 3 years old. Gemma has coexisted in her foster home with both dogs and cats. She has a high prey drive, as most dachshunds do, so very small mammals might not be the best fit for her.
Gemma does wonderful with older children, and has even slept in the same bed as young kittens. She would spend all day outside chasing squirrels if she had the chance. Gemma would do best in a home familiar with the breed, as she displays all the traits you find with this breed.
Please fill out an application if you would like to meet Gemma.

More about this rescue
Orphan Annie's Neonatal Rescue was founded by a licensed Pediatric and Neonatal Nurse Anesthesiologist and a Licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator. The founders are able to take their vast knowledge of saving human babies, and small mammals; and apply it to the very vulnerable orphaned kittens and puppies. At Orphan Annie's we take in the sickest, the smallest, the least likely to survive without our care. Every single animal we have for adoption has beat the odds. By the time they are available for their forever homes, we have months of our lives invested in these babies, and thus know everything there is to know about them. Our babies are hand-raised, so they are extremely friendly and eager to be a loving member of their forever homes.
