Online  Adoption Application

THE FOLLOWING CAT IS BEING CARED FOR IN A LOVING MCR FOSTER HOME.

*Clarisse & Kringle are siblings. It would be great if they could be adopted together, but it is not required.*

Clarisse is a gorgeous girl with a big personality! She is a "mini Maine Coon Mix. She has cute little "turtle feet" and a rather unique tail. Clarisse looks like a sophisticated little munchkin, but she is a big-time diva! She loves to play and chase strings, and generally tear around like a wild woman. She enjoys being petted and has super-soft fur. Plus, she has the sweetest, breathy meow that sort of sounds like, "hey."

When she was a kitten, Clarisse and her brother, Kringle, were kept in a crate all alone in a basement. They were not handled or socialized; when they arrived at the rescue, they might as well have been wild animals. However, volunteers have had tremendous success transforming Clarisse into a sociable kitty that naps next to her people, no longer afraid to be a total diva! Clarisse still has some learning to do, so she needs an adopter who has experience owning cats and is willing to socialize her proactively.

Clarisse is not suited to a household with children. Due to her lack of socialization, Clarisse can become overstimulated and will nip or swat at people. She is exhibiting this behavior less and less, so we have high hopes that she will not revert to this defensive behavior after she is settled in with a family she trusts.

Clarisse needs an adopter who is patient but also assertive. Kringle and Clarisse cannot be left to hide and decompress like most cats. They will not "come around in their own time." Clarisse's owner must be willing to keep her in a room (or a large enclosure) with *no hiding spots* for 2-4 weeks. Ideally, her owner will spend long periods of time in the room, in her presence, petting her, and helping her build trust and confidence through play! This "exposure therapy" has worked well for Clarisse, who is also easily won over with Churu treats. Kringle and Clarisse's foster parents are happy to help strategize and guide new owner/s through the socialization process. During this time-- and always-- the adopter must be committed to using only positive reinforcement. (Remember, yelling or punishment of any kind teaches cats to be afraid of you; they do not connect your actions to anything they did.)

Clarisse is such a funny little girl who will steal your heart before you know it! Help her continue to grow into the outgoing companion she was destined to be, before she became a victim of neglect. She has come such a long way already, proving how much she deserves a home and family that love her and treat her like the princess she is!

Clarisse's adoption fee is $200.00. There is a $25.00 discount for adopting a pair of MCR cats, so the fee for both Clarisse and Kringle would be $375.00.

Your adoption fee includes spay/neuter, FVRCP Vaccine, Rabies Vaccine, Combo Test (Neg/Neg), dewormer, flea prevention, microchip, and wellness visit.

Want to know the steps of our Adoption Process?

1 - One of the first steps to take is to take a look at our available cats. Know what you are looking for in a new family member and see if one of our cats fits into that description. The adoption application will ask you what cat you are interested in applying for.
2 - Please fill out our online adoption application to the best of your ability. Any omitted or incomplete information may delay the processing of your application. Once you submit our online adoption, the completed application will be assigned to a case manager (CM).
3 - You should receive an introductory email from your Case Manager introducing themselves, giving you a projected timeline, and what to expect during the screening process.
4 - Your Case Manager will conduct a telephone interview with you, your personal reference, the landlord (if applicable), and verify your listed vet reference. After the interviews, your application will be voted on for approval or denial by our rescue committee. You will be notified by your Case Manager of the voting outcome.
5 - If approved, you will be asked to submit the adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee. Once those two items are received, you can pick your cat up or work out details with the foster.

*We ask that you keep in mind that we are an all-volunteer organization. We try our best to be professional and efficient, however, there are times that we may be unable to return an email or call immediately. Please be sure that we will communicate with you as soon as possible.
