My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Sugar!

Momma Sugar is as sweet as her name suggests 💕. This loving girl is just about finished raising her six pups and is more than ready to be the one getting spoiled for a change. After being such a devoted mama, she can’t wait to find a family to shower her with love, affection, and all the attention she deserves.

She has settled beautifully into her foster home and is quickly embracing the good life—think soft, cozy beds, yummy treats, and a toy collection she’s very happy to call her own. Sugar is a total people-dog and will happily follow you like a little shadow from room to room, always wanting to be near her person. With her adorable scruffy look and shortie stature, she turns heads wherever she goes, but it’s her gentle, affectionate nature that truly wins hearts.

Momma Sugar is ready to close the chapter on motherhood and start her next one as a cherished family member. She can’t wait to meet her people and soak up every bit of love they have to give.

Sugar is estimated to be 1.5 years old and 27 lbs. Since we don’t know the dog’s actual genetics, this is just a guess on breed and size when grown. All dogs have had a vet examination, are up to date on all vaccinations, have been given dewormer and heartworm prevention. Dogs over 7 months have been heartworm tested.

If you are interested in meeting this dog please complete the adoption application on our website at https://safehandsrescue.org/adoption-process/ and then we can contact you about setting up a meeting.

We are also holding the following upcoming adoption events!

Please note: All dogs/puppies will not be at every event, and some may find their home prior to the event. If you are interested in a specific animal, please check our Facebook page for confirmed attendance the morning of the event: https://www.facebook.com/safehandsrescue/

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We only adopt out animals to homes within 60 miles of the Twin Cities. Our adoption process begins with the return of our pre-adoption form, available on our website. After reviewing your application a meeting is scheduled between you and the pup, sometimes in the fosters home or at a neutral dog friendly place. If any resident dogs are in your home, it is recommended that the pups meet at this time. After the meeting a home visit is scheduled and if everything goes well with the visit the adoption is finalized at that time. A home visit by one of Safe Hands representatives is REQUIRED prior to finalizing any adoption and we must meet all members of the household where the pup will be living sometime during the adoption process.

Go meet their pets

Come on out and meet all of our great adoptable pups!! On weekends we have meetings at random locations. See our events page on our website or social media.

More about this rescue

Safe Hands is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization dedicated to saving lives and finding forever homes for stray, abandoned and surrendered dogs in high kill shelters. Of great importance to us is to reduce the stray population and need for healthy animal euthanasia through spay/neuter programs, education, and promotion of respect for the furry creatures that share our lives.

We are a small, no-kill, volunteer run organization. All of our dogs listed are in foster homes waiting to be adopted and because of this, we get to know the dogs' personalities very well and use this information to match them to an appropriate home. We do not have a physical shelter.

This rescue is not funded by public funds nor does it receive many donations so it is dependent on adoption fees to keep operating. We have a great need for foster homes. If you are interested in providing foster care, and live within an hour of the Twin Cities, please e-mail us
Donations ALWAYS needed are: dog crates, puppy pee pads, natures miracle (for pet stain removal), Nutrisource brand puppy and dog food, Lysol disinfecting wipes, paper towels, large clean towels, dog toys, leashes, collars and gas cards to help with our transports.
