My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This handsome little guy got his name the day he was rescued—found hiding in a bush, scared but hopeful, waiting for someone to give him a chance. Hawthorne is a young male kitten who’s had a rough start outdoors, so he’s still a little jumpy with new noises and fast movements. But once he feels safe? His sweet, gentle personality starts to shine.

Hawthorne absolutely adores other cats and since he is a kitten, he will need to go to a home that already has a confident feline friend to show him the ropes. He’s the type of kitten who blossoms with patience, kindness, and a calm environment. Every day he gets a little braver, and every soft blink or tiny purr is his way of saying, “thank you for loving me.”

Hawthorne will come with all of his first year vaccinations, a registered microchip, and a full set of medical records. He is also scheduled to be neutered at Spay n Save (in Longwood) on Tuesday, January 16th, this is also covered, you will just need to take him and pick him up.

If you’re looking for a tenderhearted boy who just needs a loving, understanding home to become his best self, Hawthorne might be your perfect match. Complete an adoption application, upon pre-approval, someone will reach out to set up a time for you to meet him!

More about this rescue

Alison and Nick Yocca started rescuing animals over 8 years ago, starting with their first rescue, Chance; an American bulldog who at the time, was a puppy. As Chance got older, Ali and Nick discovered that the life she had before finding Ali and Nick, must have been rough as she had fear aggression. Realizing that Chance may never be able to find a home and most likely would be put down, they decided to keep her themselves, work with her, and give her a home without fear.

Chance, now 9 years old, lives on a 2-acre property with her mom and dad, and many other rescue siblings. Ali and Nick knew that there must be other animals out there just like chance, who deserve a “chance” at a second life. The sanctuary was born and is now a place where animals that are hard to place can live out their lives in a happy home.

This year, along came Rosy, a look-alike to Chance and the inspiration of the name “Second Chance Animal Rescue and Sanctuary", who again came to Ali and Nick as a puppy, where they realized that she was untrained and probably kept in a cage her whole life, breeding. She now lives out her life at the Second Chance Rescue and Sanctuary where she enjoys her days playing with the other rescues, including both dogs, cats, birds, and rabbits.

Ali and Nick have several rescues of their own, and continue to answer the calls of unwanted, unknown, and left animals in the Central Florida Area. Their team continues to find, care, and place these animals.
