My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Willow, 1.5 years old, spayed female, Labrador Retriever mix, 40 pounds. She is in a foster home in HOUSTON TEXAS and can transport to an approved adopter.

Please note our process starts with an application. If we think you might be a good fit, we will reach out to coordinate a phone interview. This is followed by a video call with the foster home. Virtual home visit, personal and vet reference checks are required to complete the process. Transport is included in our adoption donation.

Meet Willow — Sweet, Playful, and Ready for Her Forever Family

Willow is a young, affectionate girl who’s blossoming beautifully in her foster home. She started off shy, especially with new people and dogs, but with time, reassurance, and routine, she’s gaining confidence every day. Once she feels safe, her silly, playful personality shines through.

Personality

Willow is a mix of curious, playful, affectionate, and smart. She loves toys, enjoys snuggling in blankets on chilly mornings, and can often be found sunbathing. She also has a funny little habit of “hugging” donut-style dog beds.

Dog Friendliness

Willow has done well with dogs of various sizes (15–55 lbs). She can be shy at first. With slow introductions and time to settle, she becomes confident and plays wonderfully. She also respects when another dog needs a break.

Cat Friendliness

Willow has ignored outdoor feral cats she’s seen near the house. A formal cat test can be arranged if needed.

Kid Friendliness

Willow has been around a two-year-old child twice. The first visit she was nervous, but by the second she was more relaxed. She showed no aggression, only mild curiosity and some jumpiness with sudden movements. More updates will be available after Thanksgiving.

Leash Skills

She walks nicely on leash with no pulling or reacting to other dogs. She is treat-motivated and enjoys being rewarded during her walks.

House & Crate Training

Willow is house-trained, with only a couple of accidents in the early days.
She is crate-trained and handles being crated for 3–4 hours during the day, and she sleeps through the night quietly.

Resource Guarding & Food Behavior

She should be fed separately from other dogs as a precaution, but she shares a water bowl without issue. She takes treats politely and has shown no guarding toward people.

Energy Level

Willow has a moderate energy level. She enjoys playtime and walks, but she is also content to relax and hang out with her people. A semi-active home would suit her well. She would benefit from having another friendly dog in the home for confidence but can do well without one if her family is engaged and present.

Home Alone

When left loose, she mostly plays with toys. She does have a habit of stealing flip-flops or occasionally chewing a blanket, so supervision or crating is best while she settles into a new home.

Ideal Home Match

Willow would do best in:

A patient, loving home willing to give her time to warm up

A home with a friendly, confident resident dog (preferred but not required)

A home with at least one woman, as she tends to be more comfortable with women at first

A family familiar with slow dog introductions

A home willing to manage minor shoe-stealing habits

Why Willow is Special

She’s gentle, goofy, affectionate, and full of love. She snuggles into blankets, enjoys sunbathing, loves toys, and brings joy wherever she goes. She is a precious girl ready for a family who will help her continue to grow and feel safe.
