My name is Betty Haynes!

Betty Haynes is a 6 week old pyr-mix puppy with a soft, thoughtful nature and an impressively fluffy coat. Named after the slightly larger, more reserved sister in White Christmas, Betty lives up to her namesake. She is calm, observant, and quietly confident, preferring to watch and learn before jumping into the action.

Betty was born the second largest of the litter and has proudly held onto that spot. She is primarily brown with a striking white blaze on her face, and beautifully fluffy coat. While she may seem gentle and reserved at first, she has a playful streak and enjoys surprising her siblings with stealthy body slams once she has sized up the situation.

She has been socialized daily with small children and does wonderfully with dogs of all sizes, including the resident adult Great Pyrenees and a visiting miniature schnauzer. Betty is affectionate and cuddly, often choosing to stay close by, and she enjoys snuggling just as much as romping and playing chase or tug.

Betty is off to a fantastic start with training for her age. She settles into her crate with minimal protest, sleeps peacefully through the night, eats three meals a day, and uses potty pads consistently both inside her secured area and just outside once released. She is working on name recognition and continues to show how smart and capable she is.

One thing to know about Betty is that she absolutely loves food. Truly loves it. Licky mats, meals, snacks, she is all in, and that enthusiasm will make her a joy to train. She does well in the car, has minor separation fussing that resolves quickly, and thrives with a predictable routine.

Betty Haynes would do beautifully in a home that appreciates a thoughtful, gentle puppy with a playful side and a big appetite for life.

At Green Dogs Unleashed (GDU), we are dedicated to ensuring the successful placement of our dogs in loving, permanent homes. Over the years, we have seen an increasing number of returns due to behavioral issues that could have been prevented with the right support. A significant percentage of these returns involve out-of-area clients or those who have not completed training with GDU. To address this, positive reinforcement training with Green Dogs Unleashed is required as a condition for all adoptions.

Preference for this dog will be given to adopters who commit to signing up for and completing our six-week Canine 101 training class in person at our headquarters in Troy, VA. Secondary consideration will be given to a limited number of out-of-area adopters who agree to complete one private lesson with GDU, either in person or virtually, and attend a pre-approved positive reinforcement training class in their area.

GDU does ask a minimum adoption fee of $400.00. This does not even come close to covering all expenses created by animals while in rescue. We are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum fee includes DAPP, rabies if age appropriate,, heartworm test and preventative, if age appropriate, and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying, if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. In an attempt to avoid tummy upset from a sudden change of food, the foster family may include a small, transitional bag of the food the dog/puppy has been eating. And if the dog/puppy has grown attached to a special item (like a toy or blanket), they may send that along, as well.
