My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Fostered in Omaha/Sioux city
Name: River – Spayed Female
-Age: 3ish
-Breed: Mini Aussie Tri-Color Female
-What was your life like before NDCB/Where did you come from?
I came from a breeding farm with 40+ dogs.
-Who is your main caretaker/favorite person now?
My favorite person is my foster mom but like the other people I meet too. I like to cuddle up in peoples laps when I first meet them.
-Are you good with kids? What age ranges?
Been around neighbor children and sat calmly
-Are you good with other dogs? Be VERY specific here?
Don’t know. Did play with Foster Mom’s friends dog and did zoomies in backyard. Seems to want to be with another dog to explore outside. Likes seeing neighbor dogs on walks. I previously lived with many other dogs.
-Are you good with cats? Most likely fine. I don’t have cats in my current foster home, but I lived with barn and cats and all of my siblings are fine with cats.
-Are you housebroken? What is your current potty routine?
I only had a couple accidents the 1st 24 hours. Learned to alert foster mom when I need to go outside. I go outside 1st thing in the morning and last thing before bed. I am in my wire crate when no one is home and have not had an accident. I can hold it for at least 8 hrs.
-Do you like car rides?
I Like to sit on the backseat and look out window. Really Like it when foster mom gets me a pup cup. Enjoy the seat warmer when it is cold.
-Do you like walks? How are you on a leash?
Went from terrified to walking around the block - little bit more every day. Foster Mom got me a no pull Harness and that was a game changer. It will go with me since I’m used to it. I know when the harness goes on we are going for a walk or to the car. I like taking my time and smelling all the smells. Unfamiliar noises make me want to retreat and turn back towards home. Learning to get used to them.
-Do you like toys? What is your favorite toy?
Indifferent.
-Do you know any commands/tricks? Learning sit and stay. Have learned to look longingly at you when I want a cuddle or a snack.
-How are your house manners?
I like to be near my people. There are these really comfy dog beds around the house where I just chill and keep an eye on them. On night 3 Foster Mom thought my midnight whine was needing to go to bathroom. It was me wanting to sleep on the dog bed in her room. Now that is where I am at night. I wait patiently in the morning for someone to give me pets and then take me outside. I don’t jump on people, counters….. I will stand by you and wait for you to pet me or put me in your lap for a nice cuddle. My wire Crate is my safe space but I only go there now when I am unsure about something or someone. I do stay in the crate when everyone is gone.
-Describe your personality-
I’m shy at first but I’m very sweet and snuggly. I want you to pet me or pick me up when you first meet me. I LOVE THE TUMMY RUBS! I will give you little kisses in exchange. I have not nipped at anyone or shown any kind of aggression. I even have a person I visit who uses a wheelchair. I stay away when they are moving around. But, I love it when someone puts me in his lap to get pets and give little kisses.
-Describe your perfect home:
A home that understands I need some time to get comfortable and learn the routine. I think another dog would help me a lot. But not necessary. Just someone willing to play with me outside and show me the ropes. I do sometimes get scared and retreat to my wire crate so I will need a safe space like that. I like my pink harness foster Mom got me. It will go with me so I know when you put it on Its time for a walk. It just slips over my head and snaps behind my legs under my tummy.

All of our pets reside in private foster homes so meet and greets are scheduled in public locations. We often hold adoption events at our grooming salon in Sioux City. All dogs have their Foster location listed as the first sentence in their bio so please make sure you check that. We do adopt out of state, but we do require that you either come pick up your pet or set up transport on your own. We can accommodate FaceTimes
