My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Masha, but these days she goes by Nova. Nova's personality is pure sunshine. Nova doesn’t overthink life, doesn’t hold grudges, and doesn’t believe in bad days — just moments that haven’t been improved yet by pets, playtime, or a good nap. She’s social, loving, and radiates that easygoing charm that makes you feel like you’ve known her forever, even if you met her five minutes ago. Basically, Nova is the friend who shows up smiling, arms open, ready for whatever the day brings — whether that’s a walk, a cuddle session, or just hanging out being adorable. If you’re looking for a dog who brings warmth, affection, and a whole lot of heart into your life, Nova is already waiting… probably wagging, probably smiling, and absolutely ready to hug you about it.

Masha(Nova) is a 7-year-old, 75-pound mystery mix — and yes, that’s the official breed designation because honestly, your guess is as good as ours. What we do know is that whatever genes came together here absolutely understood the assignment. With her striking two-colored eyes, a rich golden coat splashed with just the right touches of white and black, and that quietly confident presence, Masha doesn’t walk into a room so much as arrive. She’s the kind of dog people stop mid-sentence to admire. Masha’s journey back to rescue wasn’t because of anything she did wrong. Her family went through a divorce, and sadly neither parent was able to keep her at that time. A family member stepped in to give her a soft place to land, but due to a recent change in their circumstances, they’re no longer able to continue caring for her either. Through all of this upheaval — homes changing, routines shifting, goodbyes she didn’t ask for — Masha has done exactly what dogs do best. She adapted. She stayed gentle. She kept loving the people around her without hesitation or resentment.

When it comes to other dogs, Nova is very much here for the social scene — tail wagging, ready to play, happy to make friends, and absolutely convinced that everyone should be having as much fun as she is. She loves to romp and she loves to mingle. As for cats, Masha has never been formally introduced to one, so the jury is still out. She has no known experience with them, meaning any future feline roommate would require slow introductions. Tiny humans? Masha is curious and observant around kids, the kind of dog who watches closely to figure out what these small, loud humans are all about. She has never shown any intent to hurt anyone and seems more intrigued than anything else. She’s not reactive or aggressive, just aware, taking it all in and deciding when she’s ready to engage. With respectful children and appropriate supervision, she’s shown herself to be gentle and tolerant. New people, however, are where Masha really shines—after her brief announcement phase. She will bark when someone new arrives, because obviously it’s her job to alert everyone that a Stranger Has Appeared. But the moment that stranger proves they are, in fact, a friend by offering affection, pets, or praise, the barking stops and the hugs begin. And they do begin. Masha is a hugger by trade and by passion, and once she decides you’re safe, you’re getting the full-body, heartfelt greeting package.

Masha operates at about an 8 out of 10 on the energy scale, which means she’s got plenty of get-up-and-go when it’s time to do things… but she’s also perfectly capable of powering down in the evenings like a responsible adult who understands the importance of rest. In the car, Masha is actually pretty civilized. She’s not crawling into the front seat trying to help you drive, nor is she screaming like she’s been kidnapped. She mostly chills, gazes out the window like she’s in a coming-of-age indie film, and takes in the scenery as it passes. When it comes to adventure versus staying home, Masha would like you to know she is both. She’s adventurous, curious, and fully prepared to explore the world but she is also just as content to just chill at home. Temperament-wise, Masha is the embodiment of happy-go-lucky optimism paired with evening relaxation. She bounces through life with joy and enthusiasm during the day, then settles in at night like she’s clocking out after a productive shift. She’s affectionate, playful, and genuinely enjoys being part of whatever’s happening — without being overwhelming or needy. Her favorite activities include playing in water, chasing a ball, and generally engaging in fun that involves movement and interaction. She’s not here to stare at toys philosophically — she wants action, splashing, and a little friendly competition. When it’s time to rest, though, she rests well. Masha absolutely requires a securely fenced yard. This is non-negotiable unless you enjoy adrenaline and spontaneous search parties. Give her a proper fence and she’s content, safe, and happy. And finally, she does know her basic commands — sit, stay, lay down, and go — proving that she is not just beauty and personality, but also has some brains tucked in there too.

Masha is fully potty trained, because she is a grown, respectable lady who understands indoors is not the place for artistic expression. When it comes to kennels, Masha has simply opted out of that entire lifestyle. She’s never been kenneled and sees no reason to start now. She’s done just fine without one and would prefer to keep it that way, thank you very much. Chewing? Destruction? Random acts of mischief? Shockingly absent. Masha is not interested in redecorating your home, sampling furniture, or exploring the forbidden flavors of shoes and baseboards. Your belongings are safe. Your sanity remains intact. Vocally, she’s an alert barker with opinions. She’ll let you know when something needs your attention, and she also enjoys barking conversationally while you prepare her food — because obviously encouragement and commentary are part of the cooking process. At night, Masha sleeps on the floor beside the bed like a loyal guardian who wants to be close but doesn’t need to steal your blankets. She’s present, comforting, and just there enough to remind you that you’re not alone. When you’re away, she’s a trustworthy free-roamer. No anxiety spirals, no revenge destruction, no dramatic goodbyes. She settles in, naps, maybe sneaks a little couch time, and waits patiently for your return like a dog who knows you’re coming back.

So if you’ve made it this far and you’re thinking, “Wow… this dog sounds suspiciously perfect,” congratulations — you are correct. If you think you might be the lucky human worthy of her hugs, the next step is simple (and non-negotiable): you must fill out an adoption application at https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app. No app, no dog. Once your application is approved, we’ll send everything over to her foster family so they can help make the magic happen.

And yes, you’ll need to pick her up in Borger, Texas, because true love sometimes requires a road trip. Totally worth it. Zero regrets. Possibly snacks involved.

Masha is ready. Her bags are metaphorically packed. All that’s missing is you. 🐾💛
