A tender-hearted hound who finds joy in the familiar and comfort in kind company.
Rufus is a sweet, gentle boy who truly blossoms in places he knows. When he’s in familiar surroundings, his confidence comes naturally—his nose leads the way, his body relaxes, and his classic hound curiosity shines through. Sniffing is how Rufus understands the world, and slow, peaceful walks in known areas are where he feels most at ease.
In new places, Rufus simply takes his time. He’s thoughtful and observant, preferring to pause and stay close until he feels safe. With gentle encouragement and patience, his comfort grows, and the confident hound underneath begins to emerge. Rufus doesn’t rush—he builds trust carefully, and that makes the bond you form with him especially meaningful.
Rufus has a wonderfully affectionate side. He loves belly rubs and quiet cuddles, often leaning in close when he’s seeking reassurance. On walks, he enjoys a calm, steady pace and appreciates a kind presence beside him.
Rufus is looking for a patient, gentle adopter who values a peaceful rhythm and understands the beauty of letting a dog move at his own pace. If you have a soft heart, a calm home, and room for a hound who will grow more confident as he feels safe and loved, Rufus would be honored to walk that journey with you. 🐶
Rufus is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all of his vaccinations. You can meet him at CASPCA between the hours of 12 PM and 6 PM daily, no appointment necessary. For more information on Rufus, please email adoptions@caspca.org.

We ask potential adopters to fill out a matchmaker form. When they are ready to adopt an animal and the form and interview process indicates a good match, we have the adopter sign an adoption contract promising that the animal will receive good physical and emotional care. Fees vary and we often have adoption specials. Fees for senior pets are sponsored. Otherwise, dogs are $100, puppies $150 and up, cats are $75, kittens are $95.
