Meet Lowry, he went out as a baby has come back as a teenager. His confidence was rattled when he got returned but it turned out to be the right thing for him as he wasn't comfortable living with small children.

He is doing well with the canine companions in his foster home, although, he can get possessive of certain toys and food. This behavior is decreasing and we believe it will continue to do so as he feels more secure with time. He does enjoy his supervised toy playtime with the other large dog in the house!  He also will entertain himself with toys, tossing them in the air and all around!

He was returned with Fluoxetine medication which we have continued with to help him through all the new changes in his life. It will be up to his adopter whether or not he still needs it after he has settled into his forever home. We suspect he will be able to be weaned off of them.

Cats friends are probably not the best idea for him. He's not *good or bad * with them or malicious towards them but he thinks they should want to play and be chased even if they swat at his face. Small dogs are also perplexing to him when they don't want to play and he thinks some 'helpful' encouragement just might make them change their minds!

He is PERFECT on car rides and loves when he gets to 'go with!' He is starting to enjoy outings to pet friendly stores. At first it was pretty scary but now he knows that he gets treats at the register! We do not let children approach him since he doesn't seem eager to meet them. He might be remembering his past experiences with them. We just say hello from a distance.

He gets overexcited when strangers come to the house so he has to wait to greet guests until he has settled down, which doesn't take too long, and then he's eager to get pets from everyone, except kids of course. He is still young so occasionally tries to jump up on people.

Even though he's still very young, he's not a constant ball of energy. He enjoys down time and cuddle time with his owners. He's an affectionate boy who wants to be included in whatever his people are doing.

Lowry has a ton of potential and very much wants approval from his people. He will continue to gain confidence and feel more secure with solid routines and ongoing socialization opportunities!

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
