Hey, Ya'll - it's time for my forever home! Are you ready to get your play on? Because I am! I'm a young female with the typical Labbie energy for my young age. I would probably make a make great jogging companion, but I do love to explore when out hiking and I don't want to lose you, but bonding me makes me even more prone to checking on where you are. A safe place for me to run, get my hike on, or good long walks do me just fine.
FM (foster Mom) says that I'm still working on my human play manners, such as no mouthing and no jumping on people when excited. I'm super friendly to all I meet and I love to cuddle and wrestle with humans and other furry bodies. I'm really respectful to the other furs when told "no" by them, but I'll let them know I love them anyway just like I tell my eldest fur-foster sibling that she is the Queen by licking her muzzle.
Did I mention that I'm a licker? I love to show affection and receive it too. Belly rubs are AWESOME! I will happily crawl onto the couch with you if you let me, but FM says that it isn't always polite to assume, so she is training me not to do that.
I love food, but I do have manners when I eat and take treats. But I'll tell ya' being told to "wait" before I can eat is excruciating so I tend to fidget, but I've got it now! I like to watch out the windows at what is going on in the neighborhood. (FYI - I don't do so hot in heavily populated areas, like in the big city of Chicago - I get stressed out with the trains and all of the traffic whizzing by me, but suburban or rural life suits me just fine.)
We had service people here for 2 days and I was ever so respectful, but greeted them every chance I got, and I didn't try to escape my foster home, but FM says she has to keep an eye on me because I'm not truly bonded here.
I haven't had one potty accident here and as a matter of fact, I alerted FM one night that I REALLY had to go by whining so she got up to take me outside. Although, that was really my fault because when she took me outside before bed I didn't want to go, I wanted to stay snuggled in the house. To make sure I potty, she takes me out on a leash so I can't just run back to the door, so I'm learning that when she says to potty, I do my business.
I've earned freedom rights because I haven't been destructive or had any accidents. So now, I'm only crated when there are no humans in the house. FM says she still crates me then because of my senior fur-foster sib to make sure I don't bother her. FM bribes me to go into the crate with a couple of treats - it's all good.
So, have I dazzled you enough with what I've accomplished so far in my young life? C'mon vote for Petra!

Whoo-weee, what a ride my life has been so far!
Hey, I'm Petra, a southern gal 1-ish y.o. female mix. I came from Kentucky, found as a stray, held for 6 months before I got a freedom ride to Chicago where I was fostered temporarily until I could get into L.E.A.R.N. I was a baby when I was found and have grown into a robust, energetic gal ready to run and play.
I was so thrilled to be in a home with a fenced area that I was just doing all sorts of zoomies and played with one of my new fur-sibs. Once I got inside I had so many toys to pick from a bin, plus my temp fur-Mom sent all sorts of things with me, I just couldn't pick which toy so I circled around to lots of them for hours. Traveling to new places and getting to meet new people and fur-buds is so exciting!
After a night in my new digs, my calmer side surfaced where I self-entertain. My temp-Mom started me on some basic manners and so far have shown myself to be independent, but cuddly, and don't get underfoot in the kitchen. My foster-Mom thinks I would work out great for any runners out there, but I do understand energetic boundaries when inside.
I keep telling the oldest fur-sib that she is the Queen, but she isn't putting up with my whipper-snapper shenanigans. Don't worry, I'll win her over yet. My other fur-sib is very low-key and she will play with me for a bit, but I get rambunctious and she tells me to stop, and I'll ask her to play some more, she says no, so I go entertain myself. Live and learn.
I went hiking yesterday and there were all sorts of smells! It was wonderful! Then I was taken to an enclosed park so I could just be off-leash and RUN, but I actually stuck pretty close to FM (foster Mom) for the first lap, then I opened up a little. I came zooming right back to her when she called - she was impressed - of course, it didn't hurt we were the only ones out there. It was freezing out, but that didn't faze me any, I love to play in the snow.
Stay tuned for updates on my progress…
